Sweet, but kind of bland. No real depth or complexity to this one. At least compared to so many other stories that involve the sisters dealing with the events around Luna’s exile and return.

Another short and sweet one about Rainbow Dash and Scootaloo. Not quite as bland as the immediately previous one, but not nearly as good as How To Preen Your Chicken. Which is still a silly title, but it was a wonderfully touching story.

A wonderful moment of a character’s emotions caught in text form. Good use of language and genuine emotional pacing here. Fluttershy having a moment of peace really did hit me right in the feels

This author is really good at capturing not just a moment in time, but capturing a single emotional state, a good heart-tugging scene. Good short little story. The author has a interesting style that wouldn’t work for a longer story I don’t think, but is very effective for little shorts like this and the previous one.

I do wish the show would give us something to go on for Applejack’s parents. The fandom has pretty much gone with the idea that they have passed on. I’ve read some very touching fanfics about Applejack dealing with the loss of her parents (after the fact anyway, since I’m not sure any of the stories I’ve even seen on the fimfiction site have tried to deal with the actual death of her parents) and just wish that the show would acknowledge that they are gone, or something.
Did have one nitpick for this story. Twilight Sparkle was being her usual oblivious self, not understanding that Applejack’s mother is gone, but it was hard to blame her. Applejack was talking exactly like you would if her mother was just in the next town over. I know that can be used to keep a person’s memory fresh, but in this case it went on a bit far. I went into the story knowing that the fanfic was coming from the basis of Applejack’s parents being dead and I found myself struggling because the dialogue was so well written as if she was still around and just didn’t get to visit Ponyville more.

If you know of a text-format reviewer I'm not keeping track of, please let me know and I'll see if they meet the criteria to be assimilated into the list.
If you are an author who wants a more detailed review of a story I've covered feel free to message me. My reviews tend to be fairly light, mostly just reactions to a story right after reading it. I am happy to give a more careful read and reply to anyone who wants more precision and/or feedback.
