    I'm (still) not quite dead...

I'm sorry, I am so very sorry for the lack of updates on, well, anything. A few of you have probably noticed that I've still been putting in the occasional appearance or comment, but as for chapter updates...yeah I've barely written anything for months for various reasons - work sucks, arranging a couple vacations, a falling out in my D&D group of 14 years, and just a sort of malaise that

    When you're writing a chapter...

And listening to music to keep yourself in the mood, and then you hear a song that has you suddenly realize that you've been writing the entire chapter wrong and should have instead been basing it around the song - not necessarily using the song directly (especially since that would be against site rules concerning wholesale copying of lyrics), but certainly drawing on it for inspiration.

The Good News and the Bad News

The good news is that I got a root canal on Monday. No more pain in teeth. Yay!

The bad news is that I was 3/4ths of the way through the next chapter of Midnight Castle (~5000 words) and realized that I was writing it totally wrong. I need to go back to practically the start and change up a lot, though I'm salvaging lines and paragraphs wherever I can.

I believe the phrase is "GET HYPED" · 5:04pm Nov 28th, 2014

I believe the phrase is "Yes yes yes yes yes yes yes!" :twilightblush:

Call me old and out of touch, but I'm more looking forward to Avengers 2 than I am Episode VII.

Still, cautiously optimistic.

I'm sorry, but the light-broadsword is kind of silly. Still, hype gotten.

Yeah, I'm hyped.

I think it's neat. A lot of people are saying that it's impractical since the crossguard's emitters could just be sliced, but then again it's more protection than a normal lightsaber has (which is none whatsoever). Plus it's a very small and simple thing that nevertheless makes it look instantly distinctive.

why is this already garnering so much hate from fans for not being 'like the original trilogy'? it looks awesome. yes, it has that J.J. Abrams Star Trek feel, but we knew what we were getting when we heard Abrams was assigned to it. to be honest, i'm surprised there's no lens flares in this trailer.

There's a little, but it's hugely subdued and appropriately placed, at least as compared to Into Darkness

Im cautious on this one. Althou the effects look pretty neat (thos low flying X-wings and the MF doing some awesome moves).

Also I wont put my hopes up high, its much easier to get positivly surprised this way.

Well the original star wars theme makes any trailer better.

Seriously my heart leapt just at that music.

Very nice. I like the new Sith Lord's lightsabre. Very striking in appearance, and offers some hand protection (seriously, people seem to lose hands in lightsabre duels like it's going out of style).

2621434 what, Lens Flares? i didn't spy any in the trailer.

There's one when the Falcon does its somersault, but as we're looking at one of Tattooine's suns at the time, it makes sense, like I said.

I want that helmet. And the X-wing that goes with it. :ajsmug:

Meh... I mean, yeah, it's more Star Wars which is exciting in and of itself, but we've known that for months now so nothing here really adds to the anticipation. Even for a teaser this seems woefully insubstantial and bereft of context.

I'm still eager to see how this new film cycle turns out, and come December of next year this'll likely be at the top of my must see list. For the time being though, I'm just not feeling the hype -- certainly nothing compared to the sheer giddiness that each of the prequel teasers incited in me the first time around.

Given that I wasn't particularly crazy about episode 7 before hand (PT will always be my era of Star Wars), I will say that I've gone from indifferent to mild interested, if only for Black Stormtrooper and ball droid . On the upside, the Falcon actually impresses me for a change, so there's that.

Gee, I wonder how George Lucas is going to screw THIS one up...

I tried to get hyped but then I saw that stupid lightsaber, and all it did was serve to remind me that, given that the "blade" has no mass to speak of, they should used like sabers.

Which they are not and never have been and for reasons that I don't know that just pisses me off.

FALSE ADVERTISING

That lightsaber design is so stupid its ADORABLE! :raritystarry: Who's a silly Sith? Who's a silly Sith? You are!

I really like the new Stormtrooper helmet design.

The HYPE is lukewarm-ish.

He won't; Lucas isn't involved in this beyond writing a treatment since he sold the franchise to Disney (and they're free to modify it as they see fit). The director is JJ Abrams, and the script for VII was co-written by Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan, one of the co-writers for the Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi scripts.

Never really watched/got into Star Wars as a kid and was kind of meh on the prequels, barring Count Dooku's pure unbridled awesomeness, Mace Windu's badassitude. Still looks interesting.
