Some announcements and realistic expectations · 1:13am Nov 25th, 2014

Evening folks! I've got a couple of things to go over before I forget. >_>

First things first: As some of you may have guessed (and some of you are already aware), I invited Viking ZX to write the Bonus Chapter. I greatly enjoy his writing and he's been gracious enough to share some of his characters for cameo appearances throughout this storyline. Letting Viking ZX write a chapter was fun for me to watch (plus I could buy time for my next chapter which is taking too long), and it gave Viking a chance to test some of the critics.

Second thing: I know I mentioned it in the last blog post but after reviewing my current workload I honestly don't think I'll be able to devote time into a Lets Play or a similar blog. Not including Mente Materia, I'm working on two projects on my own time plus a third with some other folks.

Third thing: Sadly, I may end up removing my PSN and Steam IDs from this site. I've recently been spammed with password reset requests that I certainly didn't request so I think someone's up to shenanigans. : /

Lastly: I'd like to thank all the kind and helpful souls who provided fixes for Stardust over the past year and a half! I finally went back through everything and implemented the fixes in the hope that I can be featured on EqD! I had originally submitted the story for consideration back in August of last year (I think) but it didn't pass because of some very valid grammar concerns. Hopefully this time around I'll have better results!

Anywho, I'm getting the last three scenes done for the next chapter of MM, I'm hoping to be able to post it over the Thanksgiving weekend. See you all then!

Good luck on the EqD submission. I know you'd have my vote. Also, will have to add you on steam before you remove it:pinkiehappy:

Edit: look for DragonSworn

Good luck getting onto EqD. If I could get something on there, I don't see any reason why Stardust can't be there too.

Out of curiosity, what are some of those other projects you're working on?

Well that sucks. That's way lame.

Not that it might not be a targeted thing, but it could just be crawlers finding your IDs listed and having a run at them. Still a wise choice.

Stuff...Stardust...stuff...fixes

Well if that fixed version is live it gives me an excuse to give it another read.

Stardust has been fixed? Awesome! The weird sentence structures were the one big thing I didn't like about it. I might have to give it yet another read soon... see if there are any lingering errors to be excised. And then I'll probably have to play XCOM again.

Some weird grammar and sentence structure aside, I'm surprised Stardust (and its sequels) wasn't featured on EqD in its original format. It surpasses the majority of crossover fics that attempt fusing 2 fandoms for non-comedic purposes and manages to make both worlds feel more fleshed out. That, and you actually finished it (a feat many authors of multi-part fics are still attempting.)

Here's hoping to see Stardust featured soon in all its updated glory.

Thanks for your well wishes!

And one of the reasons Stardust was rejected initially was in part due to the reports in it. From what I understand the decision was a bit divided but the decision was that they weren't necessary. Hopefully now that the story is finished, when folks reread they'll notice just how much foreshadowing and such I put into those reports in addition to providing characterization for the minor characters. :)

It's a secret!

Yeah, it's unfortunate.

Wait, things were recently fixed? I've already read through Stardust twice, does that mean it's time for a third read-through? :yay:

I've recently had a few people send me random friend requests and try to get me to click random links. Of course, I'm not THAT stupid, so I report them. Hearing you might remove your link, I looked you up and sent a request, just in case you were wondering who the skull guy was.

Lastly: I'd like to thank all the kind and helpful souls who provided fixes for Stardust over the past year and a half! I finally went back through everything and implemented the fixes in the hope that I can be featured on EqD!

Bearing in mind that it's been a while since I've read anything of yours... that does include having fixed the dialogue punctuation, right? That's what really frustrated me about Stardust.

Rejecting it because of the typos I get but this... you've got to be kidding. I've heard horror stories about EqD pre-readers but it's still shocking that they could be so tasteless as to not value the insight those reports provided and so thick skulled as to believe they didn't serve an important role in the narrative.

GL on the EQD feature, you and the story deserve it! :pinkiehappy:

Gah, I hate having accounts hacked (had it happen to a paypal account once, so I know your pain).... hope they weren't able to get any important info from ya.

Anyways, hope things get to settling down for ya soon, so until next chapter, have a great evening, good luck getting Stardust featured on EqD, and Happy Thanksgiving!

2614872 Also, good filler chapter, dude. :raritystarry:

2615111 Yes to a third read through.... and a fourth, and a fifth, and so on and so forth:rainbowkiss:

This is EqD. Included in the reasons they rejected Rise was "Foreshadowing isn't good writing, rewrite the story with in-action flashbacks" and "Don't introduce a character gradually, put a paragraph giving us everything at once at the start."

EqD is nice and all, but I really don't have much respect for their process. Being rejected from there really isn't a sign of anything as far as I can see.

2615363 Yeah, I have to agree with you on that. I've seen PLENTY of talented writers on this site submit works to EqD and never get anywhere with there stuff due to some arbitrary or even just outright contradictory 'advice' from the story approvers. Still, would love to know this got featured there, regardless.

Yeah, EqD is definitely not the gate-keeper of all the best fiction, that's for sure. There are a bunch of good stories that never end up on there. And then there's the stuff that does, which sometimes is really ... questionable in content, grammar, and whatnot.

Usually, fimfiction and a few fic-rec forums work for me. That's how I got turned onto Stardust, after all.

I wish Arad luck, but at the same time, I consider an EqD feature more of a "that's nice, maybe you'll get some new readers" than a huge accomplishment.

2615377 I got hooked on it via Loyal2Luna's userpage.... it was in her favorite stories, and when I saw it was XCOM related with PONIES(!), yeah, I got hooked.

Thanks for all the well-wishes again!

I know folks have some issues with the EqD recommendation process, and that's fine. I just don't want to turn this blog's comment section into a 'let's bash EqD' area. From what I understand they've done some drastic overhauls on the review process, so I have some hope of getting this featured. :D

That's the same way I found Stardust! Small world?
