Golden Sun: Time Flies · 6:24pm Nov 13th, 2014
Man, there are times I forget how fast time flies.
Seems like only yesterday I was borrowing my friends copy of Golden Sun and The Lost Age, playing them and falling in love with everything about them.
The Characters are well-thought-out and interesting to listen to; I actually take my time to talk with every NPC (and use Mind Read for even more lore)
The Story is really gripping as well.
The Battle system, while it looks complicated, is really easy to get the hang of and offers many different strategies.
Simply attack?
Use Psyenergy to buff your party and debuff the enemy?
Use Djinn to attack, defend and boost your party?
Unleash powerful Summons to wipe the floor with your opponents?
The bonus content, such as Super Bosses and Battle Mode (Deadbeard and Dullahan still give me nightmares; fought Dullahan THREE TIMES IN A FREAKIN' ROW WITHOUT BEING ABLE TO HEAL BETWEEN THE FIGHTS in Battle Mode once)
The dungeons, the music, the style...almost everything about the games is outstanding.
And with the added bonus of being able to use save data from the first game to give you the same party from the first game, The Lost Age, for me, stands at the top of my list of favorite Gameboy Advance games list.
Took 'em eight years to release the third installment: Dark Dawn for the Nintendo DS.
Another stellar game, although it did have a few hiccups, such as a six minute unskippable intro, the Zodiac Dungeon dragged on, since you had to pretty much perform 12 menial tasks and instead of giving you a teleport back to the main room when you finished it, you had to walk all the way back...
And they made Dullaan even more of a prick since he now has the power to set all of your Djinn on Standby, just like our good friend the Doom Dragon from The Lost Age.
But I still love it as a series.
You can get the first Golden Sun on the Wii U's Virtual Console; would be nice if they also released The Lost Age and put 'em on the 3DS too.
Isn't it a great series? I love me some Golden Sun. What was your favorite game?
3742381 I'd have to go with The Lost Age
Especially if you take the time to input the gold level password so you can give your party the best weapons and armor so you're unleashing special attacks every turn
3743133
Yea, lost age is amazing. I'm rally sad Sm4sh didn't get to have Isaac in it. What kind of adept was your favorite? Mine was always the Jupiter adepts.
3743326 Probably Mercury Adepts
I have a weakness for blue hair
3748897
Fire Emblem hair ftw. But yeah, such a great game series. I really hope that VC releases spark more interest so we can get a fourth game.
3748992 Here's hoping
Dark Dawn ended on one heck of a cliffhanger
3749178
And a really poorly delivered one, to be honest. The psynergy vortexes exited the story so fast to be as intriguing at the end.
3749190 That's why it pays to search every nook and cranny to fill out the Encyclopedia
And the Dream Leaf entry can be skipped if you don't take your time in Kolima
3749957
Yeah, but they really kind of wasted those as part of the main narrative. The focus shifts so drastically, it's jarring. I liked the game, but it's no Lost Age, that's for sure.
3749976 Definitely
I like the idea of Dark and Light Adepts though
3750099
Provided we get some more information on it XD
I want to know what the heck Tauparang is
3750236 Military Empire well-versed in science and military
Definitely an interesting premise for a country
I wouldn't be too opposed to seeing the fourth game expand on elements from the third, such as following Noel's path once she gets separated from Kraden
Wonder what happened to her and Piers during the Eclipse and if they managed to find their own band of six other Adepts
3752543
Yeah, it'd be cool to know a bit more about the years between Lost Age and Dark Dawn.
3752567 The unskippable opening painted a rather bleak picture of conflict as several new self-proclaimed Lords came into power
I'd like more info on the Beastmen
3755516
RIght, but I'd like to see more details. Particularly how we missed a bunch of countries and cities that were apparently there since the original GS, but we never went there or saw them.
There's a lot of backstory that could be expanded.
3755522 I admit I didn't really pay attention to that
I'm more interested in Alchemy and the like
3755532
Seriously, a lot of things just magically appeared between Lost Age and Dark Dawn, like the Great Wall of China xD
3755567 An "ancient" wall that doesn't live up to the term "Endless"
They give us a lot of terms and whatnot that weren't present in the first two games
I'd love a game that takes place when the ancient tribes were still young
3755906
It woul be cool to actually see Weyard before the sealing of alchemy
3756267 Aye
There's so much to explore
