Interstellar Review (Spoiler Free) · 5:58am Nov 7th, 2014

As unfortunate as it is, I think that Christopher is an overrated director. He's certainly talented, but his ambition sometimes exceeds his grasp, and his grasp couldn't have missed more than it did with Interstellar.

The cast is talented, the score is a wonderful throwback to the Qatsi trilogy, and the visuals are top-notch... too bad the writing and story weren't.

Once again, Nolan cannot bring himself to have characters speak in anything other than exposition (with some conspiracy theory in the beginning peppered in to boot), and it near kills the pacing and intrigue. Of course, it's a lot to take in, and explanations were necessary, but it kind of went on in this scientific jargon that made me more confused than enchanted. It's almost as if Nolan was thinking, "It doesn't matter how much sense it makes to the audience. We'll have the movie go along and make up its own rules and the audiences will just go with it."

Also, the final half-hour practically kills the movie. What was set up as an intriguing explanation to the creation of the wormhole becomes nothing but a cyclical paradox that completely renders the entire film impossible. Furthermore, the actions McConaughey and Chastain make during the film's climax are fantastical to the point that you're left throwing your arms up and screaming, "Sure, why not?"

I have seen two movies this year that match this film's length: Boyhood and Happy New Year, and neither one felt as long and as trudging as this. If it weren't for the performances, music, and stunning visuals, this would be a completely worthless movie. Give credit to Nolan the director who made the film as ravishing as possible, but shame on Nolan the screenwriter for nearly rendering it all moot.

Final Verdict:

(Spoiler review coming when I feel like it).

Reading this review makes me glad I went to see Big Hero 6 instead! Squishy robots and big kitties ftw! :rainbowkiss:

Movie, what do you think of Batman Trilogy made by Nolan? I think that the third one was WEAK compared to even Batman begins.

2579195 Been a while since I last saw the movies, but I remember liking the first one, thought the second was okay, and thought the third one was overbloated and dumb.
