Homestar Runner is back! · 12:22am Nov 1st, 2014
That's right, one of the greatest web cartoons of all time and an influential element in the humor of the early 2000s - a time when there was no YouTube or Facebook, which might horrify you youngsters - has released two new cartoons after months, nay, years, of waiting1.
Yes, Homestar Runner might not be something most of you have seen, or even heard of, but take it from me that homestarrunner.com should be one website you give your full attention to for a short while. You won't go amiss by experiencing Strong Bad's sbemail feature for a few hours. Like this classic video:
One thing to note is that the original flash videos on the website of the Brothers Chaps are chock full of easter eggs and clickable bits of fun. Pop ups and alternate scenes that you don't get in the YouTube versions of the cartoons.
Yes, Homestar Runner was a fantastic part of my younger years as a Highschool Youth. It's dominated by a sense of humor that can legitimately be considered "for everyone" without being bland or patronizing. It is clever, full of originality, and something that I consider worthy of all our praise and adulation. So if you haven't ever seen a Homestar Runner cartoon, check out the website and see what dominated the internet over ten years ago.
Seriously, just look at the size of the video files as a note on how low screen resolutions were back then. 3840 × 2160? Ha! We were still amazed that you could do over 800 × 600 back around the turn of the century / millennium. Back then, the idea of sharing videos instantly around the world was still a pipe dream. We were too focused on Myspace and laughing at how scared we all were over Y2K.
Feel free to share your favorite Homestar Runner moments in the comments below. Due to a stomach illness I won't be trick or treating tonight. Well that and the fact that parents get creeped out by a 20-something in a costume asking for free candy. I'll be happy to go back and revisit some of them this weekend. So instead I'll be taking it easy. I might even consider playing a scary video game for y'all some time, just so you can hear me scream.
And let us hope that this is a sign of the return of Homestar Runner as something that updates more frequently. I mean, come on, what is with content creators not updating stuff regularly. What a bunch of slackers.
Right?
Right?
Stop looking at me like that.
1) Yes, there was an April Fools video a while back, and a few random videos released during the last few years. But they've been small fries. Now we've gotten 2 3 new videos in a matter of weeks.
Dear Daemon,
How do you type with boxing gloves on? xD
Welcome aboard the U.S.S. Homestarrunner.com!
Seriously, this site was (and still is) one of my favorite sites on the intarwebs. This site took up a good portion of my free time during high school. Also, after well over a decade, my key chain still has a "Strong Badia" stop sign accessory on it.
By the way, as great as the "Dragon" email was, I still think my favorite one is "Virus".
"Hey Bubs, can I have my leg back now??"
Oh my god, it's finally back!? I remember when I first learned that it died... I was so SAD!
