The Primal Gods

The Primals are so named for being the eldest of the gods, arising in the era of chaos before even the lands were formed or the stars were hung in the sky. They are among the most powerful beings in existence, easily more powerful than any of the deities that would come after them. With such power, it is perhaps the best that there are only two.

Harmony

Harmony is the first alicorn, the embodiment of balance and one of the creators of Equis. Commonly depicted with a snow white coat and long red mane, what few legends exist of her speak of her coming from elsewhere and discovering the primal mass of chaos that was early Equis. Said legends also claim that she was able to calm Discord's chaotic tendencies, and convince him to calm down.

As imaginative as she was full of compassion, she vanished before the more well documented eras of history. Theologians remain torn on where she vanished too. Some think that she hides on Equis somewhere in a new form. Others declare that she left reality entirely to build new worlds full of pony kind. Whatever the truth is, it doesn't change the fact that she is gone.

She is also known as the Fount of Peace.

Discord

Everypony knows Discord. He is the mad serpent who fired the first volley in the Age of Nightmares, the breaker of minds, and the bringer of chaos. The first and greatest of Equis' monsters. The truth of the matter is a bit more complex, however. Discord is far too chaotic and scatter brained to be dedicated adversary of Equestria, and he would find the role quite gosh anyway. No, let Tirek be the wellspring of all evil. Discord wants to have fun.

Before his imprisonment in stone Discord was as much the spirit of change as chaos, flitting about from role to role without a care in the world. He even tried his claw at being the personification of technological innovation for a brief stint (though that didn't lead to much more than the current, somewhat schizophrenic development of technology on Equis). It is somewhat telling that now he's free again he's decided to take his show on the inter-dimensional road. With an endless buffet of other realities to play in Discord intends to do what he does best.

Discord is also known as the Mad Tinker, and the Twisted Storm.

The last of the primals is more of a theory than anything else, discussed and debated by those who make the divine their area of study. As the theory goes, since Discord represents chaos to the point of disharmony and Harmony embodied balance that there should logically be another. A creature of perfect law and order taken to the extreme to balance Discord's chaos.

If such a creature does exist however he or she remains an enigma at best. So far, there has been no evidence of such a being ever being on the planet.
