I would attempt, in some way if at all possible, to make getting Featured truly mean something. Create some kind of filter so that a story has to actually be worth the attention. I understand that's subjective, (and possibly sounds elitist) but whatever.

I'll agree with you on the anthro part. That (and humanized) has no place on a site dedicated to cartoon ponies. Even though there was Equestria Girls, humanized is still a load of shit. As for the other stuff you mentioned, I couldn’t care less, since I don't read it.
I would make a program that tracked the average length between story updates, (for each specific story) and tracked for keywords in blog posts to make a rough guess of how long it would be for a specific chapter update
Mabye put it in the statistics page

I would make a second feature box to put the NSFW stuff in if they selected the mature option. that way we can look at the good stories in on area and the good NSFW stories (If you want to call it that, I'm not your boss) In another area.
Split Genre and Mood tags. Genre is more flexible, and allows for a larger range of expression. 1-3 Genre tags, up to 3 mood tags.

Sad
Dark
etc.
Genres:
Comedy
Romance

Everyone knows DiscoBelle would be better.Eliminate the featured box.
Barring that, either set up the featured box select stories based on specific quality criteria (basically, only eligible if a majority of mods approve the story based on quality of writing and other things), or state flat out somewhere that the feature box randomly selects stories to promote...and then make it truly random, where it uses a random number generator based on story ID number where the only qualifier to get in is "the story has passed moderation" and "hasn't been featured before", where those that have been go in the bottom three slots.
Either that or have a board of well respected authors vote on what stories get featured, with the only rule being those voting can't vote for their own stories, and for re-featured, the story must have updated since last feature.
That way, either the feature box is a true achievement worth celebrating, or is known to be absolutely random.
If I were in charge of Fimfiction...
I'd allow any categories to go together. Like "Comedy" and "Tragedy". Tragedy can be fucking funny if one right. Oh, and I'd add more categories. "Drama", "Musical", "Poetry", and "Horror". Not really sure aside from all that.
Oh wait, and I'd definitely make it so if you tagged a story as "Poetry", the word limit would be lowered to about 250.

You know, I would just do away with the feature box entirely. I've noticed as of late, that the site has become a giant popularity contest, and the feature box is in no way indicative of quality whatsoever; one writer's stories (which are guaranteed features due to high follower count) are absolutely contrived and cliché, yet they make it there. Such a sad world we live in.
I'd forget I was in charge for a week and a half only to see everything fall apart before my very eyes.
1) There would be an "explicit" and "mature" tag.
2)More tags. Especially in categories that aren't quite covered yet.
3)The "sex" tag that would include the genders of those involved (M+F, M+M, F+F, FP+QC...)
4)The crossover tag would have a split as well (Video Games, Anime, Animation, Literature, Television, Comic Books)
5)Better algorithms for the Featured box.
6)More Lunashy stories.

Ooh! How about if you followed someone, you had the option to turn off blog notifications from that person? Because some people can just get blog-crazy, and it winds up pissing you (read: me) off.
I would make it so authors had to add an "Estimated release schedule" to each of their stories, and each author had a percentage attached to their accounts that stated how reliable of an author they are.
I would also add the ability to queue chapters for publishing (So authors could complete chapters ahead of schedule, put them on fimfiction, and then set them to publish at a certain date and time).
