So I have the idea of a fic, and I'm kind of jazzed to attempt it. But, if I do, I'm pretty certain it will either never be finished or else it will take for-friggin'-ever to reach completion. If it was silly enough to check out and maybe (possibly) involved some of the character(s) on your computer monitor right now, would anyone even mind if it's never fully finished? F'naaaa.
In the meantime, I'm aiming to get another oneshot done in the next 48 hours. It'll be a story written for *me* first, so I suspect it'll deserve a lot of downvotes. Or freckles.
Lots... and lots... and LOTS of dayum freckles.
Only one more week left in October, then I'm gonna switch to writing slightly longer stuff. Perhaps months from now, I'll be back to full-length pretentious epics. Who am I kidding? Crack!fics for days.

I love me some Lyra, and I love me some changeling, so I'd say go for it. As far it possibly never being finished... well, it'd be a bummer, I guess, but I'd still read it. I kinda wish you wouldn't decide ahead of time, though. Just plow into it and see where the spirit takes you, finished or not.
Also, as much as I've enjoyed all these one shots, the prospect of some "longer stuff" makes me smile. Say what you will about the concision of short stories, but few things compare to truly being immersed and invested in the richness of a longer story.
If you're excited to write something but don't know if you can do it right, then start writing it. That's a telltale sign you really care about the idea at hand and want to see it pulled off perfectly, no matter how long it takes, and the end result ought to be something special. Go for it, you ambitious bastard.

I don't like fics that go unfinished, but I also accept it as part of reading fanfics. I also know that authors tend to write the best stuff when they write what they enjoy, and I like reading authors at their best.
