A new project, and an explanation!

    Hey folks,

Alternate title for this blog post: I'm Doing a Thing (and I'm looking for help)

I don't think anyone is surprised that my pony writing has been on a bit of a hiatus for a while, and my presence on this site is mostly to lurk-and-read rather than finish my long-delayed stories. What you might not know, though, is what I've been doing instead of pony writing.

Some art, new short, and some updates · 6:52pm Oct 19th, 2014

Hey folks,

My writing has been a bit slow since I got back from Afghanistan, mostly because I've been busy making up for six months of drawing and digital painting. I finished another piece today, though, and I think I got most of it out of my system.

First, we have some new artwork for In the Garden of Good and Evil:

Worked with some new brush settings on that one, as well as painting in two separate passes -- values first, and then color. The result is color that's a bit washed out, but not muddy, which I've had trouble with in the past.

Second, one that has nothing to do with any of my stories, a Holy Priest from World of Warcraft, envisioned as a pony:

The pose was a pain with this one, but after enough drafts I managed to get a head that didn't look like a horrible abomination.

Anyway, writing! I just posted a new short story in my collection I'm Afraid of Changeling. The Storm was an entry in RodgerDodger's October Writeoff challenge, and it managed to place first in that contest. There were some great entries, so I was thrilled with how well it did.

Anyway, now that I'm back, settled in, and got all that drawing out of my system, it's back to writing at more-or-less full speed. Expect updates on the way to Forever Summer, Salvation, and then a new thing I've had sitting in my files for a month or so.

That's some really nice art. Excellent work!
Anyway, feel free to take as long as you need on your projects and I hope you're doing well.

Holy **** that Luna!

Damn! Looks good. Looks real good.

Writer. Soldier. Scholar. Artist.

...boy, you sure know how to make a guy feel inadequate, don't you?

Magnificent work. The painting of Luna, in particular, is just stunning.

Noc

Sumbitch. Not only do you write ineffably better than me, but you paint, too? You … incredibly talented dude, you.

(Seriously, those pics are freakin’ gorgeous. You got mad skills.)

I know, he's like the ideal citizen of ancient Athens. Also, what Ghost said. That Luna is very striking.

I might have to take up a new hobby. Trying to find a field of human endeavor that CiG won't kick my ass in. I suspect it will be a loooong search.

Is there a textless version of the Garden cover? Just... wow. :rainbowderp:
(Edit: 2spooky.)

No no.

By all means, please.

Keep painting, they're absolutely wonderful.

My thoughts exactly. :twilightblush:

Don't stop on our account, though!

Now that you've made painted your holy priest, you gotta make one!

Dangit, Gardez, stop being good at everything. How long until we hear you composing pony music or something?

Expect updates on the way to Forever Summer, Salvation, and then a new thing I've had sitting in my files for a month or so.

So I gots to ask: no judgment, but is the Wind Thief sequel just straight-up dead, or... ?

Nah, it's still alive. It's just not at the top of my priorities list at the moment.

I have way too many incomplete fics at the moment. Need to get them finished before I start another one.

Look, CiG, we need to talk.

Either you art that well, or you write that well.

Otherwise it just looks like you hacked into your skillpoints and added a bunch of zeros that just don't belong there.

EDIT:

I am still, some minutes later, alternating between looking at that Luna in awe and swearing profusely in envy.

Ooh, pretty.

That was precisely my reaction to that Luna picture. It is gorgeous.

If you've ever played the Sims 2, you might be familiar with the SimVac. It let's you suck skill points from strangers and transfer them to your sim.

I'm beginning to think that CiG might have a few of them lying around . . .

Art AND writing?

(one of us, one of us...)

Nah, he just put minus a thousand points into origami. If he attempts to fold paper, he dies without a saving throw.

With that hair and coat, they have to be a troll, right?

Also, holy crap you are talented.
