Retcon Update #1 · 3:22am Oct 14th, 2014
Q: What is retcon?
A: Retcon, short for "retroactive continuity", is when an author, usually of a long running series, decides to reframe some past event for the sake of the current story.
1. I will be going back through all my stories and changing all the ponified profanity into regular expletives. Not only has it become increasingly difficult to write using such a limited amount of ponified curse words, but it sounds kinda silly when ponies are getting shot and blown up, and the worst word they have is "buck". Yeah, that's changing. Regular profanity to follow.
2. Say goodbye to Learsi. No, not the entire nation. Just the name. Let's be honest, the name is just silly. When I wrote it, I intended it to be a placeholder until I thought of something better. When I didn't and just wanted to move on, it stuck. Boy, howdy, do I regret that now...
So! Allow me to introduce the new name for the nation: Re'em. From the Biblical Hebrew for "unicorn", it makes sense and sounds a HELL of a lot better. I'll be changing all references of Learsi in my work to Re'em, Learsians to Re'emians, etc. My apologies to anyone currently working on side projects in this universe. I realize how much I just twisted that up on you all, but all in all, I think it'll make that little corner of the universe that much stronger and interesting.
Shoutout to MariusIoannesP for the name suggestion almost a year ago.
If I decide to do any further changes, I will post another blog in the future.

Oh my goodness! You took my advice. Thank you!
Bravo to the change of the nation, but I'm a bit put off by changing the curse words. I feel like you're already at the edge of anthro with them sometimes standing on two legs and firing guns that are still designed for humans.
I like to think even the darkest fim fic should contain things that remind you it's a cartoon. "The writing on the wall" that daring do fic is very very dark but they are still cartoon characters. Austraeoh's later sequels have militaries fighting each other in grimdark ways, and the characters appreciate the gravity of their enemies, but rainbow dash is still the pony that kicked a dragon in the face. We feel the weight of the authoritarian state through characters being careful when they speak and in the way they miss the loved ones they've been separated from.
When you chose to make Derpy a mail mare then your decision to make her somehow able to deliver letters to the front lines was absolutely the right decision from a fim fic perspective, not just a light hearted aside.
It's not a huge deal and won't detract more than a little from the stories, but I feel strongly about it.

I don't really think the changing profanity is going to have any negative effect at all.
And besides, you can still use other mediums (like humor) to capture that "cartoon" feel that you want.
For example, I am writing a OC story about a country at war. It's a very dark story and it uses normal profanity. However, the main character likes to collect Ponymon cards off-duty sometimes.
There ya go.
"Buck" as a swear word is terrible anyway. :B This is a good decision.

The more I wrote "Learsi", the more it gave me an aneurism. So thank you for the life-saving suggestion!

It makes Applejack's job sound horrible too.
2532486 Hooray! My suggestions save lives!

YES. THIS IS ALSO THE REASON NOT TO USE IT, THANK YOU. :D
Oh noooooooo! My story in your world! Now I have to go through all my work and change any reference! All ...3... chapters! Noooo!
My carefully crafted story! ...that takes place across the pond without a single pony in the story.
In all seriousness though I do like the changes though. I think the use of real curse words will keep the feel of the story instead of "buck" which...feels G rated while the rest is basically an R rated.
Also I think Re'em just sounds awesome.

The Black Wraith site is no longer being updated or accepting any command inputs, because something even bigger is coming to replace it now that Retribution is out.
