I'm back from my visit... but WHAT A WONDROUS SIGHT I HAVE RETURNED TO!!!!
Hard Pressed to Impress, my loner oneshot about a disgruntled Rarity trying desperately to impress the seemingly perfect Fancy Pants to gain a sponsorship for a competition...
HAS REACHED 1000 VIEWS!
This story has... a bit of a depressing history behind it. As you can all see, it was the first story i wrote after Head in the Clouds...
and after how successful Head in the Clouds had been you can imagine how much of a stab in the chest it was when Hard Pressed receive a mere 8 views within the first week of being published. I had put a lot of effort into it, 55 pages on Microsoft word and 16K words... and for a very long time it received little to no attention. If not for Apple in the Corner and Weight of Responsibility picking up some of the slack, i was actually considering calling it quits. Thankfully the Soarindash contest rolled around, i wrote Flying Sky High... and the rest is history.
But this story was a rough spot in my pony writing career... and it gives me GREAT joy to see it finally reach 1000 views...

eh... well... it could have been happier, but there wasn't much we could do about it. She recieved news that her oldest kitty back home had to be put down right before i arrived, so she was really upset
i basically spent all weekend comforting her, but i was glad i could be there for her.
I'm kinda sad too, I spent enough time with that cat to feel it too

actually, once Piercing the Heavens is done (sometime this century)
i plan to write sequels (some short, some "longer" (not Piercing the Heavens long)) for Hard Pressed, Apple in the Corner, Weight of Responsibility, and possibly even Not Quite How He Told It.
i wrote sequels for my first two stories, so might as well give the others similar attention 
Also been thinking of splitting Hard pressed into 4 chapters... may make it easier for some to read.

i think the biggest problem it had was the length. 16K is pretty big for a oneshot, people generally get turned away if it breaks through 12K.
Soft spoken did alright because it had Fluttermac tendancies to boost it's popularity. Hard Pressed is also my only story without romance. (Apple in the corner technically has none... Pinkie even scolds me for misusing the romance tag
)
Good news. THIS IS A GOOD STORY, AND I THINK YOU CHARACTERIZED RARITY PERFECTLY ACCEPTABLY.
I don't usually use the HEY! LOOK AT ME! caps, but Rarity has always been my favorite of the Mane 6. I am sensitive to when her characterization seems a little off (e.g. that most recent Cook-Price FRIENDS FOREVER story, in which she spent half of the tale acting like a clueless tourist searching for "The World's Largest X Shaped Like Lincoln's Head").
She may not have been at her most admirable in your story, but excessive self-consciousness is one of her character traits, and it is OK to run with it.

I've always seen her as one who is always trying desperately to save image and look her best in all fields. I was really looking to emphasize that with this story, i'm glad you liked it

2530487 That particular personality trait of Rarity's can be a double edged sword. It can get her in trouble if she loses sight of the big picture but it also motivates her to make beautiful creations.
It doesn't always have to be romance between Fancy and Rares. As long as they have interaction that's all I need, if it can fuel the Fancity fire.
