I noticed a story today on the front page of the website, within the featured box. I have never seen such a story on the site, and it actually made me mad to see such. If nothing else, the sheer lack of respect for someone else, bothers me so much that... Well, I really don't have any words for that feeling. If they were present in front of me, I would have likely told them off. Right after slapping them upside the back of their skull and questioning their intelligence, if not their moral integrity for doing such a thing.
The story was essentially a strange "parody" fic intended explicitly to offend and ridicule the person who was featured in the story. For those unfamiliar with the story I mean, this is where it is located.
"Reality is Stranger than Fiction", by Marshal Twilight.
The story is practically open mockery of a user on the website who goes by the name of "Reality Check". In the story, "Checkered Reality" is a pony so obviously a strawman for the writer's problems with RC, that it offends me. Freedom of speech is a double edged sword, to be sure, but the poor taste involved bothers me. More than that, the writer actively attempts to subvert RC's work by feeding stupid, "extremist fundamental christian" viewpoints through the straw man character.
Now, I see what the writer is attempting to do. He's poking at RC's use of "straw man" characters as people have complained of in the past. While I do not agree with this point in many cases, the thing of it is, not a single one of the "straw men" that I have seen in RC's stories have ever been an actual user of the site with which he did not agree. It honestly came off as an angry child, muttering a mockery of the adult that told him something he didn't want to hear. Usually, the "straw man" in RC's works talk about concepts like economics, sociology, or family issues. No one is outright mocked, even by proxy.
I do like RC's work, make no mistake about that, but I am frankly appalled by the sheer audacity put on display. It's fine to disagree, as adults are wont to do...
It's entirely another thing to go to this sort of lengths just to throw a temper tantrum about shit that wasn't there in the first place.
I tried to read it in order to give the story a chance to be funny. But it seemed that the story (mature rated because porn was present) only had the character present as a vehicle to make the "incestuous parody sex" happen.
I am very upset with all of you. This sort of thing is entirely unacceptable in my eyes, yet people seem to enjoy it because they have managed to render, in their minds, the judgement that RC is not even human enough to be afforded basic dignity. Some have even said that RC "doesn't deserve" rights.
To these people, and those who say the same of others simply because you disagree with their viewpoint, I will share a viewpoint of my own.
It seems to me that, if the world worked as you think it should, where opposing viewpoints are to be silenced? We wouldn't have the nations that we do today. America would not exist, and neither would many of the other civilized nations in the world. Society would be a miserable machine, working for the betterment of those whose opinions "mattered". And your own viewpoint would have been silenced long before it had the chance to flourish.
If you're going to disagree with people, that's fine. Healthy, even.
But don't do this, please. Don't disrespect others in this way, simply because your thoughts on a matter aren't the same as theirs. Remember, this isn't a case of oppression, or corruption, or any other criminal issue. This isn't about an abuse of power, or any heinous crime committed. This is basically someone writing a story ridiculing someone for saying that they don't like vegetarianism, when you're a vegetarian.

Stop being such a tool. And grow up it is a fucking story. marshal did it for a laugh and Reality check is a fucking dip shit so who cares?

Whatever your opinion of Mr. Reality Check as a person, or your opinion on his views, I don't feel the sort of character assassination that was conducted by Mr. Marshal was anywhere close to acceptable. And while it is just a "fucking story", it was insulting. I wouldn't want someone writing such a story about myself, and that's pretty much my barometer for "is this act acceptable?": ask myself if I would want someone to do the same to myself, should our places be reversed.
You know, the "Golden Rule" we were told of as kids.
You are free to disagree with me on this matter, but make no mistake: your "biting" comment about my "being a tool" isn't going to change my opinion, I am a fully grown adult with a fully formed opinion on this "fucking story" and do not need to do any more "growing up" as you so implied, Mr. Marshal "doing it for a laugh" is not an acceptable reason in my mind as it remains still in poor taste, and Mr. Reality Check being a "fucking dipshit" does not preclude one from handing yourself with decorum.
In short, everyone involved is an adult, and I would rather they act like it for this particular situation.
I am not angry about what you said, but I am offended. Mostly though? I am disappointed.

I'm not denying he has been a jerk in the past. I've seen him be less than pleasant. That doesn't mean the reactions and behavior directed towards him were justified as a result of that. Being a bit mean does not translate to "you are less than human and therefore deserve all the bad things that happen to you". For example, I don't like what you're currently doing, and I see it as trying to stir up trouble that has been done for just about 9 months now. That doesn't make you any less of a person, that just makes you annoying to me.
There is no point in furthering this "debate" (if you can call this that). Please do me the favor of stopping this, as further attempts in this manner will be ignored and possibly just outright deleted as harassment. Attempting to insult me by calling me a "tool" just because I do not agree with you is far from helping your case. In truth, it makes me less likely to listen to your view point, because all you are doing is using Ad Hominem in an attempt to shame me into following your own opinion. That won't fly with me.
In the end, you are free to disagree. However, if you come to my own page where I have expressed my opinion and insult me not just once, but twice, with no real opinion other than "RC deserves it because he was mean and I don't like him, and you are a fool for liking anything about him"?
By the way, while Marshal Twilight had his freedom of speech? Remember that both Reality Check and myself have our own as well. So I am well within my privileges and rights to express my disappointment on the matter.

Do know that Marshal Twilight wasn't the only one behind the story. He had heavy influences and direct help from the parasprite. If my memory is correct, she even wrote some parts of the distasteful story.
