Post of the Day: Sylph Talks About Cleaning

I spent the last two hours of today cleaning my house. It felt really nice. I’ve been in a funk all day since starting SotC and it’s affected my rhythm all day. I woke up late, I found it hard to focus, anf everything’s been just really awkward today. So when I got home I cleaned. It got me out of this funk that’s been bothering me, and it’s helped me realize that those memories are just that,

Post of the Day: Sylph Talks About Shadow of the Colossus

So today was a weird day. I spent the first two hours of the day watching pones while I downloaded Fallout 4, followed by taking my fiancée out for an early Valentines Day. We spent most of the day out and about before she told me to go to Game Stop. There she bought me Shadow of the Colossus. I was super excited to play it because I remember playing the shit out of it as a kid. I remember

Post of the Day: Sylph Gushes About Games

So in place of a short story today I'm writing a blog. In fact, I think I'll start writing a blog a day, just to give room for an actual conversation rather than only posting stories and all that jazz. It feels good to have been writing recently, like really good. I haven't done this in a while so it took a minute for me to get back up to speed on how to actually put words together to make

It's Called a Reunion Tour Mom

Okay so I'm doing neither a reunion nor a tour, and also my mom has no idea that this site exists so why did I put that title (because it's cool that's why.) You got me. But, that doesn't mean that I'm not back. And writing. Like a lot. Honestly, I swear. I mean look, I posted like two stories in two days. That's gotta be a record for me (especially after two years.) Eli isn't coming back with me

    Long Time Coming

So, as quite a few of you probably noticed, I died for a long time there. I haven't touched Fimific in quite a while, I even stopped getting on to check how Wraith and Irid were doing. I guess the reason I'm writing this blog is to say that I'm leaving Fimfic now. I loved being here for you guys and writing stuff for you but I can't anymore because it's just a drag now. I may be leaving Fimfic

Morning Blogs #03: Video Games · 9:57am Sep 17th, 2014

Good morning everyone, and welcome to the show that has the most erratic posting schedule of all time. I'm back after contracting another disease a third week in a row. Today I'm going to do a rant on video games and once I'm done we're going to do something a little different. If you guys have something you want me to talk about then leave it in the comments below and I'll make sure to get to it eventually in a blog. But for now let's jump into the wonderful world of video games.

Now, video games have been around for a while now and as a result I have no need of explaining the history of them, but I do need to let it slip that I have a rather large history with them dating all the way back to the original NES and I've gathered quite a bit through my years here, even getting some of the never titles like Titanfall (but no Destiny and god damn I want that) and the like, and over the course of these years games have come out and earned titles, such as the worst game of a series (I'm looking at you Sonic '06), possibly the hardest series of games ever (I can vouch for how hard the Souls series is, although it's hella fun), and more likely than not the most heartwrenching game series ever, with literally only eleven episodes to it's name. We all know what I'm talking about there.

So my question is, who came up with these titles, like who was the first to stand up to Sega and go, "No, this is not okay, this is shit." Or was it just the entire collective power of the internet that threw the game back at their face? Does anyone even know the answer to this? Why am I asking so many questions that I'm more likely than not going to get an answer to? I guess we'll never know. But in all seriousness I really do applaud that first man, or woman, who stood up and proclaimed, "This thing is shit," or, "Omg, not Lee," and then proceeded to curl up in a ball and cry. Nobody is badass enough to not cry there. But yeah, video games have changed insanely over the years, most of the old ones being 2-D platformers while nowadays we have entire 3-D galaxies and hype ass graphics that make you wonder if you're playing a game or looking at art. I suppose in some ways that video games are art in their own form, each having their own stylistic choice of expressing their various looks and gameplay types (looking at you Scott Pilgrim). And then there are those games that dare to do something different. I recently went to Pax East and while I was there I found an iPad shoved into my hands and a pair of earphones being placed on my head. I essentially ended up playing a game as a blind man who wanted to kill himself but you ended up somewhere else due to not knowing where you were after being turned around. It was a rather different game that had no art whatever, unless you want to count a black screen, and focused mainly on you paying attention to sound cues and reacting to them currently. It was an interesting game and I wish I remembered the name.

I suppose what I'm trying to say is that video games are great, and they're only going to get better as the future continues to change them, I mean hell, we've already got virtual reality to some extent with the Oculus Rift and that's going to get better as more and more Dev Kits are produced, and then finally it'll come out to the pre-tested due to all these YouTuber's using the Dev Kits. So what do you guys think, how great are video games, or, in case you don't like them, why not tell us why you don't care for video games. I'll look forward to your feedback and ideas for future blogs. Sylph out (that ending actually felt okay with me).
