Hate on previous generations of MLP shows · 11:25pm Sep 3rd, 2014
So after that little rant, I wanted to do a less serious and long-winded one. Also, this is totally not a subject that has been dissected a billion times already... 
Anyway, to keep it short: it's a common habit among bronies to mention the G1 through G3 animated shows as "crap" compared to the generation we all came to adore and write porn about. G3, in particular, gets a bad rap for being... "too pathetic," I guess. One of my friends hates G1 for its visuals (the colors, the design of the ponies, etc.), which he thinks are nauseating, but at least the characters have to fight things like fucking Motaro from Mortal Kombat, so I guess it has that going for itself. Meanwhile, the consensus on G2 is... well, you hardly find anything about that at all, except for things like this analysis, which I found pretty interesting.
Personally, I think if I had to choose the "worst" among them, I'd choose G2. G1, like I said, involves ponies fighting demons from Hell, while G3 is so ridiculously and disgustingly innocent that I can't help but like it, not to mention because it annoys so many bronies. 
G2, or "My Little Pony Tales," if you prefer, is just... boring. I have seen a few episodes of it, but I literally can't remember a single moment of what was going on. Even those stupid parties in G3 were more memorable, and let's not even go into what a lasting shock it was to learn that G1 is basically "Pony Demon Slayers: The Children's Cartoon." G2 is little more than watching humans not much unlike ourselves (i.e flawed and dickish toward one another from time to time) dressed up as ponies. It defeats the whole purpose of making them ponies in the first place.
That said, I still don't consider any of them to be "shit." Were it not for them, then we wouldn't have G4, and besides, I think all four generations are okay in their own way. A reflection of their respective times, so to speak. I also find it to be a pretty empty argument that the previous ones are "bad" because they "were only made to sell toys." In case you didn't notice, so was FiM, and the only reason they didn't shut it down yet (and why they're making a second Equestria Girls) is because it still keeps selling those toys.
Your thoughts?
G1 I'll admit did pretty much lay down the foundation for bronies, so i see no reason to hate on it. G2...ugh, I don't want to bring it up for fear of stomach pains. As for G3, I'd really rather not bring up for fear of being nauseous (( as I'm a very cynical person, too much cuteness and optimism makes me fell sick.))

My thoughts is yup, it was made to sell toys. As was Bionicles and let me tell you I loved those things and the story as a kid. (So sad to have let the interest go though.) So ain't nothing wrong with shows made to sell toys, so long as they're good. And FiM is good. Otherwise we wouldn't be in love with colorful ponies and make porn of them... Why do people do that in every fandom? I swear, I checked for fanfictions on a book I read one time and the first story over on Fanfiction.net was smut. Very violent smut.
