Good god, I'm off to BUCK at 4am tomorrow morning. I'm absolutely terrified of this panel I'm going to be on. I'm looking forward to it but my legs feel like jelly right now. If any of you have any advice about speaking in front of crowds, please share it with me!
Duuuude, what's the panel, is there anything i have to do to get to see it other than show up, and why not come for the summer sun celebration tonight!?
2391170 I'm only there for the Saturday, kind of a late entry. The panel I'm on is this one - http://www.buckcon.org/events/word-crimes
Come and see it if you like
2391172 i'll try to remember... i'll be mostly occupied with keeping myself calm, surrounded by so many bronies. i just know i'll meet the less reputable ones... and i can't help but tell things as they are with pricks like those
Picture them all in their underpants!
Remember no one expects you to be great or amazing. If you stutter or have a little panic nobody will think "gosh that guy is so pathetic" no we are a nice community. You would only get sympathy and understanding. The people who know your stuff there will respect you even if you fuck up so just don't stress over it.
The only difference between speaking in front of a crowd and chatting with a stranger in the checkout line is the number of people and how often they'll respond to you. If you slip up you slip up, and only an asshole is going to hold it against you, and no one cares about them anyways.
Try to stay calm. The pressure and worry you feel is the start of a panic response and such things are all in your head, so keep calm and don't let your paranoia get the better of you.
You're freaking out over nothing.
I'd write more but my connection is acting up and it's causing a frustrating delay between my keyboard and the on-screen text.
The best advice I can give is to just be yourself, that's what people have come to see, you. Also, if someone asks a question and you don't know the answer, just tell them you don't know, just tell them that. There is no shame in not knowing everything
