I wrote a whole thing that I was supposed to put here, but screw it, I don't care. Here's the short version--
The next chapter of "Surviving in a Strange, Two-Legged World" is done. I'm going to edit it (which means I'll skim through it without reading it and pick out a typo or two) and then publish it. It'll be up in about an hour. Then I'll be back to writing various stuff, maybe finishing some of it. Updates for SIASTLW won't happen every week like they used to, but I'll try to update it on occasion.
It's been forever since an update, so I'm going to provide a quick synopsis for those of you who forgot what happened.
Surviving in a Strange, Two-Legged World Synopsis
A secret room has been found in the crystal palace. It was found to be the personal arsenal of the late King Sombra. Twilight is assigned by Princess Celestia to catalogue all of the weapons there. In the middle of the night, a dark force causes Twilight to go into the room and stab herself with a dagger. It was found out that the dagger is actually called the “Kīla of Gothmog”. It has the power to bind anypony in paralyzation, and only the pony that bound them can release them. That means that only Twilight can free Twilight. But Princess Celestia has a plan—send two of the Elements of Harmony into the human world to find the human Twilight. However, the mirror will close at midnight, meaning whomever goes through might be stuck there for thirty moons unless they can find a way back through. Applejack and Rainbow Dash volunteer to go.
From here, the story divides into the human world parts and the pony world parts, happening simultaneously.
Human part:
Dash and AJ pass through the mirror and arrive at night. Not familiar with human customs, Dash strips naked and attempts to walk on all fours. The police are quickly called and they serve a night in prison. Eventually released, they decide to get help from the human version of AJ.
They find the Apple Farm, and after some convincing, procure Human-AJ’s help in their search for the human Twilight (after picking some apples, of course). Human-AJ reveals to Pony-AJ that she has a crush on the human Rainbow Dash. They have dinner, and Rainbow Dash discovers a love for meat. She refuses to eat anything but, much to Pony-AJ’s chagrin. They go to Rarity’s to see if she knows anything about human Twilight. After giving Dash a makeover, she reveals she knows nothing.
Next they go to Sugarcube Corner. After feeding them and nearly killing them, the human Pinkie Pie reveals she also knows nothing. They then go to Human-Dash’s apartment. Attempts to prank Human-Dash backfire, as she turns out to be even more of a scoundrel than the Pony-Dash. She tells them that only Sunset Shimmer knows anything about Human-Twi, and only Fluttershy has kept in contact with Sunset. Human-Dash asks Pony-Dash if she wants to go flying in her plane the next day. Human-AJ, Pony-AJ and Rainbow go back to the farm.
Human-AJ attempts to entertain them for the evening using tractors and horses. It doesn’t end very successfully. During this, Pony-AJ finally admits that she might have feelings for Rainbow, and that she is jealous of how much the pony Rainbow admires the human Rainbow. Human-AJ advises that she let Rainbow know about these feelings. Later, Rainbow talks with AJ, inadvertently angering her by gushing about Human-Dash. AJ reacts jealously, hurting Rainbow’s feelings. They go to bed, but AJ decides that she will apologize first thing in the morning.
Human-Dash picks Rainbow up before AJ gets up, and she is devastated. Human-AJ attempts to console her, reminding her that they will be back that evening for a party. Human-AJ calls Fluttershy, and Fluttershy says she and Sunset will come to the farm to talk. Before they get there, Human-AJ receives a call from Spitfire, Human-Dash’s flight tutor, that their plane has gone missing. Everyone is upset.
Meanwhile, Pony-Dash and Human-Dash find themselves crash landed in a meadow. They find an emergency kit with survival gear. They set up the tent and try to go to bed. They end up having sex first.
Back at the farm, Sunset eventually comes by and tells AJ that Human-Twi goes to a college across the country, but that she is home for Thanksgiving for the next few days. She also says she doesn’t know how to go through the portal-mirror before the thirty moons has transpired. The Cutie Mark Crusaders eventually come home, and Scootaloo reveals that Human-Dash occasionally took her flying, always to the same tract of land. The rest of the group excitedly demand that she take them there too, to find Rainbow.
Pony part:
Rarity, Fluttershy, and Pinkie Pie depart from the Crystal Empire on a train en route to Ponyville. As they cross through a frozen plain, a mysterious stallion tells them that they are in danger, and they must follow him. They jump from the train, only to have it explode moments later. The stallion reveals himself as Dartmoor, and he leads the three mares to his hideout inside a gorge. Dartmoor is very brash and verges on hostility towards them, but he shows himself to be a merciless killer. They are unsure, but decide to follow him anyway.
As they go through the gorge, Rarity is attacked by a mountain lion. She is saved by Dartmoor and his falcon, Ayden. They make it to a cave, although Rarity is injured. There they meet Agister, a wizened old unicorn. Agister explains that he is head of a group called the ‘Resistance’. They are descended from crystal ponies that did not disappear when King Sombra was defeated, and they are dedicated to ensuring King Sombra never returns. He says that after the Crystal Empire came back, those who benefitted from Sombra’s government organized themselves into a secret organization, called the “Disciples”. The Resistance has been keeping tabs on that organization, and found out that they were planning on assassinating the Elements of Harmony.
The next morning, Rarity tries to be friendly towards Dartmoor, but finds him unreceptive. The only thing she can get out of him is something about “Assateague Island”, but nothing more. A pony then appears at the door of the cave, and Dartmoor assaults him. The pony turns out to be another member of the Resistance, and says the Crystal Empire has been attacked by the Disciples. Agister directs him to go to Canterlot and inform the princesses of this. He quickly reaches Canterlot and informs them about the invasion, and Celestia sends Luna to deal with it, along with the northern army.
Meanwhile, Spike befriends the paralyzed Twilight’s nurse, named Carmine. When the Crystal Empire is attacked, she rescues Spike and Twilight before they are captured. They hide out in an old warehouse. Carmine reveals to Spike that she is actually a member of the Resistance. She says that the Kīla of Gothmog, the dagger that impaled Twilight, actually bridges life and death. She says that it is possible to resurrect King Sombra with it, but that it will kill Twilight doing so. They will also need an absurdly powerful unicorn and a special alter, called the “Alter of the Gods”. She speculates that the leader of the disciples, called Grimm, is powerful enough to perform the spell, but she doesn’t know where the Alter of the Gods is. Meanwhile, Flash Sentry spies the three of them and goes off into the night…
Dartmoor, Agister, Rarity, Pinkie Pie, and Fluttershy agree to go to the Crystal Empire and attempt to save Twilight. They board a train and split up. Rarity finds a compartment with Agister and asks him about Assateague Island. He tells her that he used to be a powerful government official, and was told about a powerful artifact located on Assateague Island. However, a corrupt government official uses this as an excuse to invade, and slaughters all the ponies living there. Agister is able to save only one pony—Dartmoor. Dartmoor abandoned civilized life from then on and lived as a hermit, making a living by smuggling.
They arrive at the Crystal Empire. Fluttershy bumps into a strange pony/human that came through the mirror before it closed. She falls behind the others. Meanwhile, Grimm forces Shining Armor to cast his protection spell, creating a bubble around the Crystal Empire. Darmoor, Agister, Rarity and Pinkie Pie are caught inside the bubble, and Fluttershy is trapped outside. As they separate, Fluttershy is captured by Disciple thugs, who then try to sell her to Grimm for a bounty (as she is an Element of Harmony). She is spotted by Ayden, Dartmoor’s falcon, who alerts Princess Luna. Luna arrives with the army and rescues Fluttershy. However, Ayden is critically injured.
The cloaked pony/human arrives at Canterlot and knocks at a door. Not seeing who they were looking for, they are told that the previous owner of the house now lives in Ponyville. They start off towards Ponyville.
