A few things Mr. Isseus shouldn´t do while writing fics. · 3:49pm Jun 9th, 2012
1. Listen to high-energy eurobeat while trying to write a dark psychological study of an imaginary pony
I guess I should´ve known this was a bad idea. I had to scrap one moderately long descriptive piece AND the dialogue to go with it because it was too happy. Well not happy...the word I´m trying to find is something... what´s the opposite of sinister? I´m also listening to Super Ponybeat right now, so I think this blog entry might be a silly idea too.
2. Try to write poems in Swahili
That language is mostly based on adding a verb suffix on subject noun. Here´s an example:
nakula - I eat
nilikula - I ate
nitakula - I will eat
Turns out there even exists a Swahili rhyming dictionary on the internet. This I didn´t know before starting to write poetry for Zecora. Brought to you by My Little Pony.
...I just hope no-one who speaks Swahili ever reads my fics.
3. Study genealogy of arabian horses and their connection to Islam.
Wikipedia is your friend. Or worst enemy. Take your pick.
4. Read sad stories, like "Petrified" by Zyns. Especially before going to bed.
DAMN YOU!
5. Try to write poems in any foreign language.
English is not my first language, nor is it officially even my second. Do you know how much I had to abuse a rhyming dictionary for just a few line? At least this time it wasn´t Swahili...
6. Listen to my characters.
Yeah. They started talking to me again. Last time I ended writing the ending of Apple Family Way over because AJ told me to do so OR ELSE.
Now Twilight is trying to get me to save her while I try to make her go even more crazy. With her adorkable cute eyes and a quivering voice, saying "don´t break me".
7. Go to Rule34 sites.
They´re still just fillies! How could you! And they´ll NEVER get their cutie marks by doing that!
Oh miss! One bottle of brain bleach please! Make it strong!
8. Study the differences between different single-use scalpel heads.
Or other medical tools for that matter. Especially if I have to find ones whose names I can ponify and would still make sense in the context.
9. Pre-order any game that comes with an early beta access.
I´m looking at you Arenanet.
If I avoid these things in the future, I might get to actually write more.
