    No New Chapter Today

It's been a long, looooong time since I blogged, so. Hi. I'm still here. Still exist. My lack of activity is not due to lack of interest but lack of things to say.

    Chapter Two is Up!

Chapter 2 of the reboot of Not All Who Wander Are Lost is up and active. Unfortunately, I have discovered that publishing an update of an old chapter does not send out notifications that a new chapter has been published--at least as far as popping up in the 'latest updates' and fimfic notifications is concerned. Honestly, I'm not sure what I'll do with the new chapters of the reboot beyond this.

    On Wander

I could start this blog with a long, rambling monologue about what lead to the state of Not All Who Wander Are Lost. Its odd birth, its unfortunate comatose state, long detailed explanations why the fic essentially died so long ago. I'm not going to waste all of your time with that. If you have questions, I'll try to answer them in the comments, but that's not the point of this blog. Instead, I'm

Movin' Right Along · 2:32pm Aug 14th, 2014

After a long break—a year, was it? More?—I finally published something new.

Its reception has been rather lukewarm. That, of course, was to be expected. If anything, it's not quite as vehemently detested as I thought (though there's plenty of time for that to triple). And yet it still hit the "Featured Box." Go figure.

For those coming in here expecting me to make myself look like an ass and whine and complain about people "not getting it" or fall to my knees and proclaim "You're right it's shit" and then promptly remove it from the site, neither is going to happen. I'm not going to defend Miracles. It's not well thought out, the philosophy presented in it is highly and understandably divisive, the characterization could use some work, and the shipping—which oddly enough has not been a source of much ire—was a bit unnecessary.

But on the flip-side, I do not regret posting it. Actually I do regret posting it, but still... after such a long silence on the writing front, finally releasing something felt good (for about five minutes). That single action has increased the amount of ideas running through my head tenfold in the last few hours. I knew that getting back into horsewords relied entirely on just getting a foot in the door, and now that I've done so... well, let's just say that, barring death, I'm not going to go missing for long periods of time anytime soon.

And, really, I'm still okay with Miracles. It's not my best work, but it's not my worst either (looking at you, Egghead Tales and Where All Roads Lead). While, looking back at it, I probably should have not gotten all heavy-handed over the "morals" and "philosophy" involved, I'm still satisfied with the finished product. Not greatly satisfied, not even moderately satisfied, but slightly satisfied nonetheless. I'm already planning on writing a side story or two to Miracles, and this time around I think I'll keep the philosophy to a minimum and focus more on Twilight trying to figure out how to get a wheelchair up the steps to her castle.

As was honestly expected, this experimentation into "deep" writing has proven that I'm simply not that good at it. We all have things we're not good at though, so I'm not going to beat myself up over it.

Right now, I'm just happy to be back on the ponefic ride. Here's to hoping it doesn't end anytime soon.

Edit: After thinking it over, Miracles has no right to be on this site. I'm revoking it. If you want a link, just ask

I can toast to that. Welcome back.

And I can't wait to read more of what you write, if it's reconstruction site or not. You can strike a romantic and emotional vibe like few authors out there, and I am ever so thankful to see you back. You will always have my support.

Right now, I'm just happy to be back on the ponefic ride.

I am glad you're back as well. I haven't had an opportunity to read your new fic yet (I worked 32 hours straight yesterday, for example, or whatever the merger of Tuesday and Wednesday can be called so...yeah), but I do have it open in one of these browser tabs, and plan to read it as soon as there is time. I'm certain it's not all that bad, though. And to echo KiltedKey, though I'd love to see more Reconstruction Site, I'm sure you also have plenty of other great fics in your head just waiting to be born.

And I can't wait to read them. :rainbowwild:

>horsewords
Why does it always make me laugh so much when people refer to this like that?

>Where All Roads Lead
Hey, Hey, Hey now. I liked Where All Roads Lead. I mean, sure, it was sad as fuck, but it was beautiful.

>Twilight trying to figure out how to get a wheelchair up the steps to her castle
Oh now you're just being an asshole! (just kidding) But seriously. Just try to picture a pony in your mind, dragging their lower half behind them. Its sad as fuck. Just the mental imagery threatens to make me tear up.

Come on, Razed, this is the same site where Fall of Equestria is allowed to exist. Are you really going to tell me that Miracles is worse than that?

2369997

According to the reaction, it's damn close to as bad as Fall of Equestria.

Only reason I didn't read miracles was cause the whole "disabled" thing reminded me of another story of yours. Didn't come off as a bad fic though from the summary. Is it really as bad as ppl make it out to be?

2370027
Can't tell you for sure. I would advise against reading it, however. I'll be restarting up that other fic you mentioned soon. It's a better fic than miracles so... yeah, skip Miracles

2369997 FimFic is full of armchair philosophers who like to jerk off to how smart they think they are.

2370160
Now Cyne, no need to generalize.

2370005 I think we can all agree it's not nearly. :ajbemused: Nothing even could be.

I didn't get to read it before you pulled it, but I'm happy to hear you'll be writing again regardless. Best of luck with whatever you write next. :pinkiehappy:

I disagree with your decision to pull it; even if I didn't think it was the best thing since sliced bread, I don't think it doesn't deserve to be here.

Wait, you seriously pulled it from the site? <censored> :twilightangry2:

Why? I'll agree that it's not the most amazing story ever, but there was nothing terribly wrong with it, and there was plenty good about it. I'd know, I spent more than an hour proofreading that thing. :facehoof:

Sigh. Well, it is your right, but needless to say, I'm disappointed. :fluttershysad:

2370366
And you did a hell of a job proofreading it. Seriously, I can't thank you enough.

I'm sorry I made you waste time like that. I truly am. Unfortunately, I'm also a coward... and the backlash was too much. I can take constructive criticism, in fact I love it, but too many of the comments I was getting were personal attacks. "Fuck you" and whatnot. So instead of taking the insults like I should, I chickened out.

I'm so sorry.

Still, I might re-upload it after the fire cools. I probably will. I can, since I luckily didn't delete it.

2370388 Please do. When I last looked there were only a few comments, nothing really negative yet, so I don't know how bad it got. But if they weren't constructive, screw 'em! Your story was better than 97%* of the stuff on this site, easily. I rather liked it, myself.

*(Being as I avoid 90% of the stuff on this site, the value listed is approximate. (So is the second value listed.))

2370556
It'll probably be back up by this weekend. I'm waiting for the comments section to cool down (people are still discussing... I think it's economics in there, for some reason). Once that settles, I'll put it back up.

2370563 So I just went to my history and checked on the comments on your story. Holy wow...

Even my comment saying "I like your story" got four up-votes and four down-votes. How the hell?

But on the bright side, I don't see many people saying the writing was bad. All I see are maybe three people having a discussion about other ways out of the situation (most of them legitimate). Really, your story inspired a(n insipid) discussion about ethics and morality. Just wave your hoof at them and say "bah." :trollestia:

As for where the down-votes came from... I don't know. Looking at this example really makes one lose faith in the rating system.

It's not so bad. You have a well-written story that inspired discussion and made it to the feature box. Could easily be worse.

Well, the thing you have to recognize is that the story was morally offensive to people, rather than, you know, poorly written. Really, to get a large number of upvotes and downvotes, a story pretty much has to be morally offensive to some group of people; most badly written stories are just ignored.

More or less they felt that the story was advocating something that they felt was very immoral, that Celestia was wrong, and they didn't like the story as a result.

The story wasn't poorly written, it was poorly received because of the central moral or theme of the story.

While obviously not nearly so bad, Birth of A Nation is widely regarded as a very historically important film. It is about how the KKK are good guys saving white people from blacks and carpetbaggers. It doesn't matter how well put-together something is if people don't like the actual content.

The story was controversial. Personally, I wouldn't mind writing a story which was hugely controversial, but I haven't figured out a good way to write an abortion story yet. :trollestia:

2370160
So is the whole world. It's just more personal here.

Awe, I didn't get to read it in time :fluttercry:

Is the offer still there for a link? I'd love to see why people are so angry.
