Tons and tons of words! · 4:17am Aug 10th, 2014

For someone who grew up sweating over those prompts in middle school tests, where they'd give you a half hour to write three pages, I've come a long way in terms of my writing. Not just fimfiction, but irl. I've written papers for classes that erupted into being on the spot, and some that actually had planning. My unplanned writing always comes out better. Like that final paper on Procrastination that I turned in 2 weeks late and still nailed an A with.

Except..
When I started Ghost Town, I had been thinking maybe a couple chapters and done...But fate and my creativity have proved me wrong, as I'm five chapters in. FIVE! And over 12k words. That's 11 T-T-T-Tia!'s! This fic so far surpasses anything I've ever written, both in length, and in inspiration. Typically, when inspired, I run out after a day or two. (See also: Peachfics) Here, I took a week off, and still the ideas are flowing. I'm pretty damn proud of myself right now, but that's no real accomplishment compared to some other prolific authors here. Some of you have novels written, and here I am, flaunting the first ten pages of your novel as a good job, when you're struggling to put out this huge fic. I respect that. Everyone's different.

But for that kid, who used to look at composition books and writing exercises with wide-eyed fear, this is an incredible change. I've felt so refreshed after typing a chapter, that I can't help but to open the next chapter and start right away! I'm flowing with ideas, and they always change when I'm actually typing. I'm thankful for everyone who's come by to offer ideas/thoughts on the fic, as I'm literally entering uncharted territory for me: writing a multi-chaptered fic.

I do need some pointers on keeping the chapters consistent and entertaining, as opposed to trying to squeeze one-shots into the chapters, as my mind is wont to do. I could use a hand with planning as well, since I always spent that "5 minute plan period" writing the first page, instead of doing what we're supposed to. General consensus says I'm doing fairly well, but I'm not confident in my ability to wrap this up as best as I can. The way I see it, I'm guessing 5-6 more chapters, at least, and I'm daunted by that prospect, cause I don't think I can do it right. I fear I'll lose my very helpful muse and I'll have nothing to write after a week, so bear with the constant updates.

I'm sorry I devolved into a rant, but I'm serious about that advice. Guys who write hundreds of thousands of words, or those of you in the tens of thousands, I'd like thoughts/pointers, cause I'm feeling pretty lost, and I already burned my paddle with the canoe, so I'm stranded here.

Ghost Town chapter five is up now: First Breaths
