Post-BronyCon 2014 · 9:36pm Aug 4th, 2014
Words cannot describe the weekend I just had.
Driving down to Baltimore, I was in a mixed quagmire of nervousness and excitement. I had never been to a convention. I had never been in any major brony event or around more bronies than my local group. Nothing could have prepared me for what was to come.
BronyCon was the best time I've ever had in my twenty-two years on this planet. I can say this with absolute certainty. In these past few days, I have had more fun, met more people, made more friends than I've ever done before. I felt right at home in the community with my brothers and sisters, and not once did I find myself without something to see, something to do, somewhere to be, or someone to talk to. I won't go into a day-by-day account, but I will highlight some of my favorite moments.
I got to meet some of my most favorite artists in the community and bought more pony merch than you can shake a stick at. I went to panels that intrigued, taught, and humored me. Every day was a new adventure, and I will remember them for the rest of my life.
But the greatest part, by far, was getting to meet all of the fantastic writers and members of our fanfiction community. Finding Jake the Army Guy was more like running into a lifelong friend I'd known forever than meeting someone for the first time. Hanging out with amazing people like Captain Unstoppable, Golden Vision, Skeeter (I know you're lurking around here somewhere...), Pav Fiera, ABagOVicodin, Obselescence, alexmagnet, and others whose names escape me right now (I know there's more; there were 60-something of us in that pub) was an awesome experience, so if you guys are reading this, shout out to all of you! All the jokes, the stories, the TSSSF games with double OTPs... You guys are the number one reason I had such a blast, and I really look forward to getting to know you all more!
All I can say at the end of this experience is this: I can't wait to do it all again next year! Same time, same place, my friends.
Well, back to work!

But that's the thing. It's ONLY a few days and it cost like, everything one could possibly ever have.
How the hell could you have fun when you know you're broke? (Just a question. I'm very glad you did have fun though

That's a very good question.
It's all in the preparation. If you know how to manage and budget your money, it doesn't end up costing more than most weekend vacations would. I had friends coming down just to hang out with people and cosplay. They didn't buy any merchandise, so their costs were lower than mine. I saved up plenty ahead of time so I wouldn't have to worry about that, and going down I knew it would be an expense, so I prepared for it.
But you get what you pay for. If you want to connect with the community—truly connect—there's no better place you're going to do it. I can almost guarantee you will make new friends there, and it's even better going when you know you're going to see friends you already have. There is something for everyone at BronyCon, and I doubt anybody leaves that place feeling dissatisfied or that they wasted their money.
2343505 I feel I would be dissatisfied if I were to ever agree to go to something as big as that. I couldn't imagine what I would do around all those people. I really couldn't. I'm shy, and even though I know that they would all be Bronies too, I'm still not sure how I would act around them.
I dunno. Sometimes it's just fun to miss out, I think
Meh, it was alright...
2343539 If you don't mind my asking, how much did it cost for you, and what all did you have to buy yourself? Like a hotel room or something?

Well, the normal three day pass is sixty bucks, and you can actually buy it now. the hotel was kinda expensive, but I shared the cost with 4 others.
Glad you had such a great time my friend, hopefully I'll see you and others next year if I can can make it.
We will meet again.
Count on it.

I'm so glad to hear that you loved your first BronyCon experience! It was a fantastic year and I hope we can continue to rock! I'm also excited to hear that you're currently planning on returning!
Hopefully we'll get a chance to meet again! It was awesome to have the chance to meet you and actually talk to you a little. I'd also like to thank you for helping me introduce myself to Jake the Army Guy. It had been a long day and my brain was in no condition to pronounce draconic names.
-Oh and in a side note I love the new avatar looks.
Really looking forward to seeing you again and reading what comes next!
2343472 At the very least heading to a convention is something to look at and consider. At BronyCon the staff tries to make sure that we're able to accommodate for people who are shy and might not always want to talk to people. There are a lot of things to try and do, though if you're not sure you want to try something as big as BronyCon you might want to consider a smaller one, especially if you have a friend or two you can bring with.
Also if money is a concern I know that there are ways to help cheapen the price tag. Sharing a room with someone helps cut the price of rooms down considerably, and there are other ways to help cut back on costs. Being a staff member or Gopher are two other options to help reduce costs. Basically it's as Dusk Quill said, planning ahead and budgeting. I was worried about destroying my bank account when I first started attending, but thanks to some planning ahead I've been able to keep BronyCon relatively affordable.

It was fantastic to meet you too, my friend! Getting to sit down in my element and chat was great. You can bet I'll be there next year.
Thank you! It was a commission I got from Katie Cook while at the con.
2343914 Huh.Maybe someday I'll get to experience it.
