Put Down the Ship and Back Away, Brony · 3:50am Jul 30th, 2014

But Celestia has vowed never to take flowers from any but one pony . . .

So, anyway, I'm over here working on my new story, "Fifty Shades of Brad," when I happen to check my newsfeed.

I admit I've pretty much stopped following Brony news because, I mean, I like ponies and all, but I'm over thirty now, and there's only so much Sturm und Drang over talking cartoon horses I can handle from one fandom before it ceases to be enjoyable. But I read the blog of Scoots2, who is so, like, better than Scoots1, and it turns out there is a lot of hand-wringing at present between "Fluttercord" and "Dislestia" shippers.

Huh. I'm not sure I knew those ships existed. Or maybe I'd heard of them and thought the latter one was a mental disorder. Like, as in, "I suffer from Dislestia, and thus I've given up all hope of ever having a real relationship."

Apparently, as reported on Equestria Daily, someone asked Meghan McCarthy why Discord gave Celestia flowers at the end of Season 4, and because she wants to keep her job, she answered that he was simply apologizing, as in, "Sorry I nearly destroyed your kingdom for the third time, best wishes, D."

And this has started fights and tears and stomping and crying. Really? This is the opposite of dramatic. Apparently, some Bronies really, really have to see Celestia have dinner with Discord or something, and it upsets them that their fan fiction might not come to fruition.

Hey, we all got problems: it's been four seasons and I'm still waiting for Megan to show up with six-shooters blazing and for Danny to totally make out with Pinkie Pie.

C'mon, guys, your story Spaghetti Dinner with Discord in Eighty-Seven Really Long Chapters is not exactly threatened by this non-revelation. McCarthy's brief comment is nothing.

. . . But on the other hand, your ship's already dead and you didn't notice, because Katie Cook done burned it to the waterline.

Deal with it.

*is perfectly okay with both ships*

LOL, seriously? I'm so glad I've stepped away from Equestria Daily. They were pretty cool at the beginning, but it's become less and less attractive over time. So much so that I only go on there every once in a while to look at the art posts, favourite one, and then promptly use it to end my blog posts.

In other news, Sombra x Celestia is best ship, and if it doesn't show up in season five, I'm going to pillage Middle Eastern villages in unadulterated rage.

Is there anything left to do with that ship, really? It seems to me the story's pretty well done at the end of the comic arc.

As I see it, Cook knew she could get away with a story that gutsy because it would not affect canon one way or the other, because no romances are planned for Celestia in the show. So Cook inserts the detail that in the past she had a big ill-fated forbidden romance with an alternate universe dude and in spite of the tragedy that ensued remained true to her first love for a good solid millennium.

Which is hardcore badass romantic, by the way. I'm personally in favor of no ships for Celestia (which is I think what we'll get anyway), because I want to see her stay true to Sombra's memory.

That would be a smart move indeed. Though to be perfectly honest, I am very, very behind in the comics, so I never ended up reading up till that point. XD However, I'm going to have to because the comics are pretty damn good.

But it's so sad that they are lost to each other. :raritycry:

Though I did like alternate good Luna and alternate good Celly's outfits. Greek and Egyptian respectively.

Yes, but what's really more romantic, pining for his memory or catching Discord on the rebound? I gotta vote for the former.

Better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all, I guess.

2328120 Getting Discord to use his magic on now-evil Sombra and turn him good despite his corruption? :derpyderp2:

Weird. The whole scene seemed obvious to me from the moment I saw it.

Each of the main six got their magical shimmering-rainbow thingies that turned into keys from enemies or rivals that became friends. So, when Celestia (a symbol of Equestria itself) gets a magical shimmering-rainbow bouquet from Discord, it's a symbol of enmity turned to friendship: A nice way to wrap up the story arc.

I don't know if it's thematic tone-deafness or philosophical blindness that would lead anyone to think it was a romantic gesture, but it sure isn't rational thought. :facehoof:

I, too, found out I'm enjoying ponies a lot more ever since I stopped paying too close an attention to the fandom.

I'm not sure I knew those ships existed.

You obviously do not understand how shipping works. :V

That being: all sets of characters with cardinality 2 or greater get ships.

:twistnerd::trixieshiftright::coolphoto::trollestia: ---- it's been done, I'm sure. If not, the shipping version of rule 35 will kick in eventually.

I'm with skywriter on this one. Discord's wink was a 'we did it' gesture, because the two of them planned the whole thing. Seems like I've got another reason to read the comics.

Also, shipping for everyone! You get a ship, and you get a ship.
