Bad Nebula, finish your current stories before starting on more... · 3:30pm Jul 25th, 2014
So the biggest problem I have when writing isn't a lack of ideas but too many. I've mentioned this before, probably several times by now, but it's still true. In developing background for characters, history to explain what led to current events in a story or even in thinking about what would happen afterwords, I am constantly thinking of ideas that I think might make a good story.
Most recently while working on Child of Misery; I was further developing my villain Achlys. Particularly what kind of villain she is and what it is exactly she is after. While working on it I went back to what role she played in the Alicorn Imperium and what she did during the purge (The extermination of alicorns). Now a lot of her desires and goals will come up in future chapters so I'm not going to get into it now, but as for her background, I've really considered writing a story about the purge. If I did, the primary characters would be Starswirl (Before he became known as 'the bearded'), Solar Flare (No not evil Celestia, he's actually one of Celestia and Luna's ancestors), and of course, Achlys.
Anyway, that's just one idea that has come up while writing my other stories. I still have After Midnight to finish, as well as Child of Misery. Then I have the biggest project, Midnight Star and the Father of Light. But even while I'm continuing to flesh out that story, there's also a small side project in the works; Midnight Star: Recovery, which would be several shorts that would cover some of the minor events between The Frozen Empire and The Father of Light. That one came about because of interest shown in seeing how Midnight adjusts to her split personality. And there's still one more major story in the Midnight Star universe even after Father of Light, though its focus is on another character, not Midnight.
I really need to just sit down and finish Child of Misery and After Midnight, so I can continue on to some of these other stories. Both stories are really about to get going and in Child of Misery there's one particular confrontation that's going to be fun to write; here's a hint:
