Green Status Update And A Question To Anyone Who Enjoys What I Do · 2:50pm Jul 17th, 2014
Hey folks. I just had to check into something. I have heard of this thing called Patreon, and on the advice of a good friend, I setup an account. I don't know what to expect, in fact I won't be disappointed if I get zero backers, but many of you have said in the past that you wish you had some way of expressing appreciation for what I do beyond just likes and favorites. That you wish you could upvote more or something. Well... if you are such a person, and would like to send me a little gift, or send something on a monthly basis.... I have a page set up here.
Again, I don't want anyone to feel obligated. If you don't even look, my feelings won't be hurt. But if you do feel like supporting me with more than words, there it is. Also, if you don't wish to back on a monthly basis, my profile has a link to my paypal donation box.
I feel very strange doing this, to be honest. I know a lot of you really enjoy what I do... but the idea that someone might want to support me directly is... I feel arrogant even mentioning it. That's why I want to stress... don't do this because I deserve it. I don't. I'm just a guy, I love how much you seem to enjoy what I do, but I don't make videos, or art... I just write. I dunno, writing just feels... like it's not enough.
Anyway. Feel free to comment on what you think. Maybe I am just wasting my time and yours with this, if so thank you for reading it.
Oh, and Green will update at the end of the month. I am keeping to a good schedule on it finally. Thank you again.
Rrrg, I'm just waiting for Hasbro to notice all these "their property" related Patreon accounts and come down on it like a ton if bricks.
You know, a good idea would be to put these kind of beggar posts in the author's note of new chapters. A new chapter of Green gets likes 2000+ views in a day. Your blog, maybe gets 200+ tops during the duration of a week.
Don't fish in the small pond, Steel.
2293985 Eh, I don't want to force anyone to read this if they don't care. That seems even worse than doing a blog.

It's not gonna feel so bad when 1 out of those 2000 happens to be a big fan that's also rich and willing to donate $100/month. You don't even have to beg for it. Just discreetly shoehorn a link to your Patreon into the author's comment box.
-"What a great chapter! Huh? What's this? A donation page? Well, I suppose i could donate a few dollars. I do make a million bucks a month."
Hey, nobody ever puts down published authors for "just writing." You do good work and create great Web content like so many others on Patreon.
2293978 I'm actually curious to know what you mean. I mean they're not claiming it's their property and I think there's other fanstuff on patreon. I'd have to examine the TOS and I'm easily distracted ^^;
2294206 Fact of the matter is that fan works occupy a legal gray area. Hasbro tolerates small peer-to-peer transactions like art commissions, but they don't have to. If they felt like it they could shut every single fan artist down.
This Patreon-for-fanfic/art thing is basically setting up a salary for yourself to produce something based upon someone else's property without their permission.
I'm betting that'll cross a line.
It's a terrible idea.

Salary seems to regular a term. Donations are pretty sporadic.
It feels like there is a lot of paranoia surrounding Hasbro and it's legal department right now...
2295741 Patreon is monthly.

DERP, so it is.
I wouldn't bother with it, but I assure you I am not stingy.
2294024 let him do it the way he prefers...
