Exchange .epub Version · 4:15pm Jul 4th, 2014
A reader recently brought to my attention the fact that the .epub file that Fimfic outputs for Exchange is improperly formatted and missing huge chunks of several chapters as a result! Apparently this is a common issue with the site's .epub generation and I apologize for any inconvenience this has caused, but I wanted to make other readers aware of a solution I've found to the problem.
There's a neat little free program called Calibre eBook Management that has a very convenient plugin just for Fanfiction. It's pretty straightforward to use, and I've confirmed that the version of Exchange Calibre produces when using the plugin works properly in all the major e-readers and e-reader software I've been able to get my hands on.
It's fairly simple to use. After installing the program, click on the Preferences button and select 'Get plugins to enhance Calibre' from the menu. Install the FanFicFare plugin from the list, which will add a new button of the same name to the toolbar. From there, you can use the 'Add New from URL(s)' option to add stories to the program which will then convert them into working .epubs for you. I highly recommend you give it a try, as even ignoring the missing chapter information, the .epub files Calibre generates of Fimfic stories turn out much nicer than the ones the site's native generation produces.
That's....actually really cool... I had no idea this existed. I'll be sure to check it out, thanks!
Really? o.o
When I read it off my phone, I didn't notice anything missing.
And now I have the urge to go back and compare them...

Yes, I was able to verify that at least on iPhones / iPads and Nooks, several chapters were completely messed up. I never would've known without someone else bringing it to my attention as I use a Kindle for my e-reading. I'm not sure if Android-based e-readers suffered the same problem.
the story was fine on my kindle, but i used Calibre to formate it ...

it helps but dose not always fix every thing
ebooks with anything but Calibre (with the de-drm plugin) is a mistake. There's no alternative.

It's comments and blogs like these that make me feel like the only one who has use a xbox on this site.
...I feel left out
2257869 your loss
use a PC for gaming dude it's cheaper and more flexible
2387556 that could of been a choice if I didn't get my Xbox one around two weeks ago.
But I do have a iOS, so that helps.
the issue with the Fimfiction e.pub version is that it won't read text after author notes, or any embedded text.
Now that seems to be an useful hint - I will give it a try!
The built-in .epub generatoin doesn't include Author's Notes, and pictures, among other things.
Can't find a plugin by this name. Is it called FanFicFare now?

Yes, it looks like it's called FanFicFare now, but from what I can tell everything else is the same.

I remember from years ago on this site, someone getting around their mom's "no internet" rule by using their Xbox, since she didn't know that you could browse the internet with a Xbox.
Was that you?
Or am I misremembering it as something similarly unorthodox?
