Exchange Hardcover Poll - UPDATED · 1:49am Jul 26th, 2018
This is a V.I.P. (very important poll) and your response is greatly appreciated!
IMPORTANT UPDATE #1: The cost of the book (including shipping) has been revised down to about $50 with the exception of some potential edge cases. If that influences your decision, please indicate it in a comment below.
So, if you're wondering: no, I've not been resurrected, nor do I intend to produce the hardcover myself. But there's still a chance it could happen! A reader clued me in to a publishing outfit based in Russia that's decided to start producing English copies of pony fics, and whether or not they pic up a story for publication is based primarily on demand. If there's enough demand for a book, they will be produced, and supposedly the quality is quite good.
Now here's the downside. Since they're based in Russia, you're going to get hit with International Shipping charges, which would bring the total cost of the book to around the $60-$70 $50 range when all is said and done.
Is this a price you'd be willing to pay for a Hardcover copy of Exchange? Please answer honestly via the following poll: https://www.strawpoll.me/16151175 And if you have any questions, feel free to ask them in the comments here.
Thanks so much, guys.
PS: I've gotten fanart before, but never a fan musical composition. Apparently Russia's the true nexus of the pony fandom. Who knew?
i say no cause it's just to much. if it was a 20 or maybe 35 dollars will extra content like author signed book and concept art or more pictures that's really detail, than yes i'll pay about 45 to 50 bucks, not nearly 100 dollars for a physical book.

I agree. Personally I think the cost is way too high, but it is what it is! I figured I might as well ask to see if there was still interest.
Yeah, gotta say the price is way too high for most. With a bit of effort a reader could download the story and make their own hard copy. I've seen a guy do it with the current Austraeoh saga, who posted a picture of it in the comments of either Ofolrodi or Utaan.
Glad to see you got such a prompt answer back. I vote yes.
Will this come with the custom chapter illustrations that they seem to have done with other books? Cause those guys are beautifully done.
Seems a little pricey.

That's a great question. What all are we getting for this cost, particularly in comparison to "normal" printings of fanfictions?
Well, I am not a potential buyer of english copy, but I want to put my 5 cents :)
If you create a third bonus chapter and it would be available only on hard copy (well, put it online after a year, because this is too cruel!), then there will be much more willings to buy it
All the actual hardcopy Ponyfic I have came from Lulu.
I'm already ordering the Past Sins hardcover. If Exchange releases around the same time then I can purchase them together and save $20 on shipping. A deal I'd much more consider taking

Excellent question. I'll see what I can find out and let you know.

Nah, I'd never hold content back like that. A physical version is just a bonus to those who want something to put on the shelf.
Sad :)
I tried to cheat a little to obtain third bonus chapter...
I would love to own a hard copy.
But not at that price in my current situation.

Quick update regarding the artwork: we are currently hashing out the details regarding interior illustrations. Once things are decided I'll update the text in the main post.
I'd buy it, if not for my long-term „camping trip” abroad. I'm not willing to buy anything physical that I'd regret leaving behind. I'll consider just throwing money at everything pony in a few months.

no i still liked the story, it's just not in my price range to be able to buy it.
Unfortunately, even if there is art, I can't afford it. If you could post the art on here so it's still seeable for those of us who can't buy it that would be really cool.
I'd buy it, exchange is still one of my all time faves
I think I would pay $50 for it. I would like to find it more about it and see (if and when I order it) if I could get it/them autographed .
This has become one of my favorite reading since I can feel like I’m there and see it in my mind like it was a CG film (or a cartoon). This was a great read. Thank you .

I'll have to see what I can do about signed copies if/when the time comes. I honestly didn't expect anyone to ask!
As far as where we're at in the process, no news is good news as it is. I'll be sure to let everyone know whether or not it'll be moving forward as soon as I have an answer.
Shoot I be more then happy to order a book myself, regardless of overseas shipping. Do you know what would be the order minimum they would accept to begin production?

Nope, I don't know the exact number. I suppose it all depends on whatever printing company they're using as to whether in makes financial sense to do a run. If I don't hear anything back in the next week or so I'll reach out again as if it's close to where the poll landed I might just purchase the rest myself so I have extra copies I can give out later.

It appears Rarity's generosity is rubbing off on ya haha! In anycase, I do hope to get my hands on a copy, as i stumbled upon your story a few days ago and just finished it today. I must say, for a story mostly red in second person, you have out done yourself in captivating me in such beautiful story.
