Why, yes, Dear Reader, that Royksopp and Robyn show last night was incredibly amazing! Thanks for asking!
You know, sometime I wonder what the point of going to see live music is, and then I see a show like this. They took every song and pushed it up way, way beyond what you hear on the albums. Just pouring all this energy and creativity into them. Taking what is essentially a simple song and totally deconstructing it, then multiplying what was there tenfold into something complete different. It was tremendous.
Added to that is that it is Pride Week here in San Francisco, and yesterday was the Pride Parade. That meant that the city was stuffed to the gills with people that wanted to party, and party they did. I've been to a lot of shows in my life, and this was one of the best crowds ever. Dancing and raucous, they sang along with everything and screamed their heads off for the songs. It was beautiful.
These videos aren't going to do it justice, but what can you do? It's hard to capture live performances in all their glory unless you are recording through the sound board.
Some Robyn stuff…
Some Royksopp. I love these guys. They are amazing. I know this sounds very low key, but they rip it up in concert.
Regardless of Genre, good live music is so transcendental, and can border on the sublime. I'll listen to these after I finish listening to this hour-long electroswing mix I'm currently tapping my toes to.
2243433 I was making an electro-swing mix a while back. I should get on that again.
I haven't been as enamored of their more recent output, but not enough people know or appreciate Röyksopp.
2243637 I haven't heard their latest album. I have the first two, and that's more than enough for me to love them, but I do need to get more of their stuff. I've seen them in concert twice now, so if their falling off, album-wise, it's not coming through at the shows. Both times I've seen them, they were tremendous.

Live shows often have something albums lack. For instance, one of the very few I ever went to featured Train opening for Matchbox 20. Train was fantastic live, but I was rather underwhelmed by the album. (MB20, for the record, was the opposite.)
