    It's late

But my brain isn't quiet. I'm stoned out of my goddamn gourd. Don't worry, it is just my usual regimen of drugs. That's how I spent a lot of my time now. Wasted. Doesn't really help with the pain much, but makes it a bit more tolerable. All of my drugs cost over 5 grand a month. That's what it takes to keep me going. I'm in somewhat better shape because of all of it, and there's a few bright

    Cyborgification is potentially a-go

Finally found a doctor that didn't run screaming upon seeing my spine images and xrays. The team is coming together. Met with the neurosurgeon the other day, and he thinks I am an ideal candidate for augmentation. The transition is happening, I think. I still have to pass a psych evaluation and other steps, but I am closer now than ever. First I'll have the trial run; they'll sink electrodes into

I suppose it is time for an update

Been meaning to this, and I've become the King of Pro-Crasty Nation. I kept wanting to report, but there was nothing to report, no good news at all, so I just... didn't. Sorry. Went a bit silent on my end. It just sorta happened.

I finally got a lawyer willing to take up my case. After that, things started happening.

Who is your favourite herd member and why?

Information will be used to help me write them better. The more info you provide, the more I have to work with.

While i do like all of the characters in The Chase My favorite member of the herd is slowly becoming Sentinel. Followed by Bucky, then tied with Pina and Dinky, followed by Derpy and Berry. I'm not including Rising Star, Sparkler, Loch or Ripple because while they are part of the herd they are also kind of separate. If I included them then Rising Star would be right up there with Bucky.

Um... Yes?

Sorry, but it's hard to pick a favorite. I mean, Derpy is best pony, Bucky is an awesome Lord of Uncertain Brightness, Berry is a fantastic plot catalyst, Dinky is best filly, Piña is the world's most huggable pineapple, Sparkler and Rising Star are coming into their full potential, Thistle is biologically and psychologically fascinating, Sentinel is an adorable bat-horse-cat, Loch Skimmer is getting a chance at a life she never dreamt of, and Ripple is an unknown with whom you could do anything.

tl;dr: You write good characters, and my bias towards Bubble Butt isn't helping matters. :derpytongue2:

My favourite character would probably be either lyra because of the way you've shown her to be really unstable unless she isnt with bonbon. Or i think it is sparkler, because she is a unicorn raised by a pegasus so she is unsure of herself but she also acts selflessly

Okay...

Sentinel is my favorite so far because of two reasons. One, I've always been a huge fan of the Lunar Pegasi. The second is because while he was introduced late into the Story/series he's underwent a huge deal of character development. Basically in the span of a few chapters he went from being a basic cardboard background character to being a very fleshed out and rounded character. On top of that it's been done with minimal presence in the story. That means that when he is in the story his presence is very commanding.

Bucky: Our main protagonist. I've followed Bucky since he was the repressed Unicorn he was earlier in the story to the 'Ashley J Williams/Chosen One' character he is now. Bucky has made huge strides in development, but it's been due to the fact that he receives the lions share of the chapters. That time is rewarded with an amazing character.

Pina and Dinky: They are the innocence the story so desperately needs. These two are so innocent, so sweet, and so wonderful. They're not stagnant, but rather they've grown as characters. Still, even with the character growth they've maintained this wonderful sense of innocence I hope they will maintain throughout the story. In a way, together, they remind me of Pinkie Pie. A mare who is the party pony, sure, but she's almost eternally innocent.

Derpy... I've been a fan of Derpy/Ditzy (I realize that Ditzy is going to be the name of a daughter, regardless, part of the reason I like her is including this name) since I was introduced to Dr. Whooves and Assistant. Your take on Derpy includes some of the same sweetness that BaldDumboRat puts into her version of Derpy/Ditzy, but you've also taken the character and made her your own. It was a little hard for me to see past my preconceptions of her at first, but I soon decided that this was an alternate universe. Since it was an alternate universe then this Derpy never meet the Doctor, she never traveled with him, and they never became extremely close. Instead this Derpy found Bucky and has proven herself to be an amazing mare.

Berry: Okay, again, I had to let go of my preconceptions. There was several of them, and most of them point to Berry being an alcoholic, and a single mother. Regardless, you've done something wonderful to Berry. It's been a true expansion of her character, and one that I'm beginning to consider my personal version of what her cannon self can be like.

I'm on the fence about Thistle. I like her, I want to really like her, and she's grown, but I feel that right now she's more roundish than a round character. She could use some more work.

Lyra and Bon Bon... I like them both, but I have to view how you write them a little more before I place them. Right now Lyra Heartstrings is still the human obsessed, quirky mint green unicorn that I've come to love thanks to the exposure she's gotten as that thanks to the fandom. Bon Bon... I like her, and I want to like her more, but at the moment she feels a little flat to me.

Rising Star's Herd is something I'm considering a completely different herd. But ranking them in order it would be....

Rising Star

Loch

Sparkler

Ripple

Rising Star: The bits he's in the story he's amazing. His character is the love sick man who begins to truly act like a man. He's become a very rendered character, and we've seen how even when he's strong his weaknesses are still right there on his sleeve. He's an amazing side character, who deserves to pushed a little further into the light.

Loch: Loch Skimmer has really grown since her introduction. It might not seem like it, but she has. She was introduced as kind of the instant best friend, and from that we've begin to see her fears, her hopes, her desires, and she's becoming more and more aware that there is far more in the world than she ever believed in her philosophy.

Sparkler: The reason she's so low on the list is because while she's starting to round out a little we're seeing a sort of Derpy like personality. Don't get me wrong. I understand that she's Derpy's adopted daughter, but regardless I think that her personality needs a little more rendering. It's sort of like she's taken her mother's example and completely rearranged her personality around it. I hope to see her become her own mare.

Ripple: There's some development here, but I feel that she needs to be in a few more chapters and written a little more before I can really give a good support of why I Place her where I will.

Bucky.

Characters who start out like that wimp and end the story with "Just maybe they're starting to change" happens too much. Bucky truly and honestly puts forth an effort to change even without being pushed and it really shows by the time they're getting married. I feel like he took just the right amount of time to fix. Probably not long enough in a realistic time sense, since changing your very mindset and beliefs takes years I imagine(but only imagine, I wouldn't know and can't say.); but long enough that it feels solid to the reader, but not long enough for the reader to go "Come on, improve already!"

Dinky because she's Dinky. :derpytongue2:

Seriously though in this situation I kinda like Berry as she is mostly one who thinks through her actions and takes time to see things from others point of view while being really honest, sometimes brutally so but not to Derpy's extent.

Well... from the big herd it's more or less impossible to pick, since you made them all so likable, but if i had to.

Derpy....by Celestia Derpy... You took a background joke pony and turned her into adorable, fierce, motherly mare. I love it.

Bucky. At the start of the story, the guy really reminded me of myself. Makes me wish I could run into someone like Derpy who'd chase me if I could end up with even some of what he's gotten. (The good stuff, obviously. Not too fond of getting any of the, partially-eaten-by-dark-magic-wolves stuff or the political intrigue he's had to put up with so far.) Plus it's been really neat to watch him grow from basically 'Male Pre-Season 1 Twilight' to 'Badass Archmage of the Isles.'

Derpy has to be my favorite character in the herd.:ajsmug:

I've never seen a more awesome mother bear in all the stories I've read and there's a lot about her that has me curious. What is she capable of if put into a dire situation and is she flexable enough to outright destroy a threat that Bucky's magic cannot affect? Just how well can she discern a doppelganger that is trying to replace one of her herd members? Does she have the sheer will power to overcome an outsider who would dare challenge her for her place in the herd? What would happen if she fell into the clutches of the nightmare due to her daughters suffering harm? My biggest concern, how she or her herd would handle a kidnapping situation that may or may not lead to rape? Not that I'm asking for the last thing to happen, that's too dark for even me... :twilightoops:

She's honestly a strong symbol that really gives me hope that they can all come together against what life throws at them.:derpytongue2:

jxj

Everyone has their moments, but my favorite is probably Derpy. While I like the newer characters such as Loch skimmer and Sentinel, they haven't really had their chance to shine yet.

Going with the crowd on this one: It is hard to pick because the characters are very well rounded and unique. Bucky has become quite the awesome character given how much he has endured and gone through. Best mare would have to be Derpy. She has definitely had her moments to shine. Despite calling her "best mare" I think Berry is a good counterbalance.
One character I am particularly proud of is Rising Star. His actions in chapter 72 really showed his growth and good character (not letting recent events getting him down and continuing his efforts to improve the lives of those on the isle). It wasn't huge but it spoke volumes about him and it gained a lot of respect from me.

Im going with Keg Smasher. I like his mixture of pragmatism and idealism. I like that you didn't take the easy way out and him a villain. I kinda think Bucky and the herd are underestimating his intelligence.

Derpy first because you took her usually jokey appearance and less than flattering personality and made her into more of a dominant figure a responsible mother and a good pony.

I want to like Thisle but she still seems kinda flat to me. Most of her I've seen is a pony tossed into a hard situation and trying to ingratiate herself whenever the plot starts to slow, or as an after thought.

He isn't married to Bucky though.

Bon bon, because believe it or not all my dreams at night tie in together and she runs a neat little cafe and is always trying to get into my pants :rainbowlaugh:

2223702

This does not help me write her character better.

I have no smily faces on my phone. Sorry.

2223713 oh it was supposed to be for helpfull advice? well from all the stories involving bonbon i've read she's usually of serious temperament and for the most part has to keep lyra and her silly attitude in line

I love them all!
But that isn't very useful.
Keg smasher - having to make so many nasty compromises and not entirely become a despot.
Bucky, because of how he's grown through the story. (Rereading the beginning).
Berry, because she's berry naughty.
Lyra and bonbon, because of the explanation of how their relationship came to stabilise lyra.
Derpy, 'doo hooves'.
Sentinel, I just love that he actually likes to eat rats.
Bat ponies and kelpies are interesting additions to the usual three.

I like Pina too because she pees on everything

herculean challenge here...

Derpy
Berry
Sentinel
Bucky
Bon Bon
Sparkler
Dinky
Rising Star
Ripple
Lyra
Thistle
Loch
Pina

that being said I love all of these characters and it is hard to pick between them:yay:

2223944 For serious lyra - I recommend http://www.fimfiction.net/story/19198/Background-Pony

Which is truly excellent.

To drag this back on topic - my earlier list is in no way in order of preference.

Coming across the above fic lead me back to comment again - way too many stories seem to have 'background ponies' - un-fleshed-out caricatures in leading roles.

idk why i'm bringing this up now but i've also heard many different names for berry punch's sister such as ruby pinch, berry pinch, and piña like you have. can i ask why you chose piña?
