    Reaction Story Ideas

Hello everybronie, it is I, Posh, actor, writer, philosopher, creator of the hit series “Big Octopi in Little Delphi,” inventor, writer, occasional male escort, deposed vice-regent of Luxembourg, writer, actor, critic, writer, and overall tall drink of water. I’m here today to discuss a new trend I’ve seen in the MLP fan fiction community: Reaction stories.

    What is a reaction story?

    Chapter Eight is Live

The real chapter eight. What was originally labeled as chapter eight, “Pasta al Forno,” was an April Fool’s joke that sprang from a ficlet Dubs wrote me for Jesus Day. The chapter titles and order have been rearranged to reflect this.

The Pros and Cons of Giving a Damn

"I'm not looking for pity. I'm trying to make a point. Girls like us can't rely on anyone, can't get attached to anyone. You just set yourself up to get hurt down the line when they're gone.

    Donations Page: For Billy Kametz

    Billy Kametz has passed away.

For those of you who don’t know who that is, he is Ferdinand von Aegir. For those of you who don’t know who that is, first of all, shame on you. Second, he was also someone named Jotaro. In English.

Or Josuke. I don’t watch that show. He was someone named Jojo; I don’t know which one.

Posh's Story Reviews: Folio The Second - Part Two - A Mire From Which There Can Be No Exodus

Awoooo, awaaaaa, amooooooooo. I’ve finished communing with the Elder Spirits, those phantom deities which lend me their neurons to write these glorious literary critiques. They’ve guided me to two more stories, to add onto my previous blog. In exchange, they are slowly siphoning my lymphatic fluids for their own purposes (I think they carbonate it and use it as a mixer in cocktails).

why is button mash so popular · 7:30pm Jun 18th, 2014

He's a little boy and he plays video games and that is the entire joke. At least Dr. Whooves has something to distinguish him from the legions of other fanwanked characters. He sort of resembles David Tennant, therefore he must be the Doctor. I mean, I don't like him either, but I get it.

But Button Mash though. I mean, I just don't understand.

Obvious answer: he originated from a video that was funny, and as is the trend on FimFiction, if lightning strikes once, everyone else decides that by golly, if Dr. Frankenstein can reanimate a corpse, then they can too! And then weeks later the entire graveyard has been upturned and the undead are crawling through the streets, begging for someone to put them out of this misery.

I think this metaphor got away from me a bit, but I think my intended meaning is in there somewhere.

For the same reason that when there is a shipping contest, regardless of the pairing, some of the competition fics always end up in the feature box. People are fanatically supportive of shipping in general. Despite being one of the most inane concepts available.

2217177 Well, yes. But rabid shipping isn't unique to MLP. Remember when Kingdom Hearts Kingudemo Haatsu was in the prime of its popularity? And Sonic? I don't even want to think about Sonic's shipping wars...

I think what's unique to MLP is the fandom's need to attach names and invent backstories for nigh every background character in the show. Lyra and Bon-Bon are lovers because they're frequently seen together; sure, okay. Vinyl Scratch and Octavia are roommates/best friends/also lovers because they're both... musicians? Kind of a tenuous connection, but sure, I can buy it. Derpy Hooves is the Doctor's companion because... because she's blonde, or something. That's just... okay. Pass the booze.

Actually, it's because a lot of bronies are overly enthusiastic and kinda dumb and have blind acceptance of fanon.

Jan Animation decided to have Button and Sweetie crush on each other in his askblog and videos because his fanon Sweetie plays video games too. So everyone bandwagon.

One fic ships OctoScratch because they are assumed to make a good odd couple with contrasting personalities. Bandwagon.

We are a fandom of bandwagons.

2217235 I've noticed that too. Though, thankfully, the idea of Princess Celestia being a serial rapist seems to have died off, from what I can tell.

2217248

The funny thing is that there were only one or two versions where she was a rapist at all. The rest of the time, Molestia was just a hyper-slut with a crown.

Button Mash never appealed to me. His design is horrendous and his voice is intolerable.

I think it's better to kinda ignore most of what the fandom does, because they're an extremely aggravating lot for the most part. I'd say just focus on doing your own thing and shaping your own headcanon. These days, it's hard to find unique gems among all the cancer.

2223973 I knew a surgeon who cut open a tumor during a biopsy and diamonds spilled out of it onto the floor.

The patient died--it turned out to be a malignant tumor--but the doctor retired young. #thanksobama

But I agree, absolutely, with what you're saying. It's funny that the fandom as a whole tends to react horribly to this kind of criticism, though. The show is as good as it's always been; the fandom's a fun and quirky place that never churns out anything objectionable, and Tara Strong has recently been dubbed the Queen of Love and Beauty at the Broniesport tourney.

Give me a break.
