One of the possible teachers I have for the school is a certain unicorn named Sunset Shimmer.
An older wiser much more subdued Sunset Shimmer who had finally returned to Equestria. Her story wouldn't be filled out much, just that she was paying restitution for what she had done and working as a teacher was part of it.
I'd like to populate the school with colourful characters, possibly even including a certain blue unicorn.

You going to have Twilight check in on them as part of the reformation, maybe even have them send her reports or might it be a pure trust thing with Bucky there as a just in case?

They would be there under Bucky's supervision of course. Bucky would be something of a reminder of what true power is. Something to aspire to.

Hmmmm... Personally I see no problem with having Sunset teaching at the school. After all there's been other 'wizards' who had done horrible things only to become faithful and loyal teachers afterward.
Severus Snape for example. On top of that there's Harry Dresden (Who committed a horrible crime in the eyes of the white council), and still even more.
I think that what it boils down to is how are you going to present them? If you want to present Sunset as truly repentant, then do so , but not at the cost of her core character. Keep her snarky.
If you're planning on including Trixie that's a, and please excuse the pun, horse of a different color. Trixie is an amazing character in her own right, but I seriously doubt that she'll ever really grow out of wanting the spot light. It might make her an effective teacher, but at the same time it may make her take chances she doesn't need to.

I have toyed with the idea, but it is unlikely.
The last two members added will be Bon Bon and Lyra, added in much the same way that Barley was added. As supportive family members.
Sunset Shimmer would probably need a good reason to return as she potentially was staeting to make friends on the other side, if you count EG as canon in your universe. Trixie though would need a little something to have her give up her career as a performer I'd think as it partially is her talent and there would of course be the usual problems with a few of the townsfolk who are less forgiving than others.

Some snark is intended and planned, but I was hoping for some serious interplay between Bucky's frosty nature and Sunset Shimmer's pyromantic nature.
The idea here is to have Sunset Shimmer and Rising Star be there to teach fire magic. Pyromantic unicorns have some special needs and concerns.
Funnily enough, I wanted Trixie to teach drama. How to put on a good show.
It would certainly be an interesting choice for Sunset and Trixie to make an appearance. Trixie doesn't really strike me as the sort who would teach
...unless it was because if she did that would make her the center of attention.

As stated though, I want Shimmer to teach pyromancy.

Trixie could teach stage magic - the kind that doesn't use the typical unicorn magic. Might even be part of her schtick to wear a magic blocker (of whatever type, I've seen various authors use rings or wraps) to prove she's not actually using unicorn magic.
I really like that idea. Sunset shimmer could teachba course on the destructive side of magic, all the while having first hand(hoof) knowledge of how said power can corrupt. Trixie can teach illusion magic. Hell i bet you can even have twilights parents teach at the school since they're disbanding their noble house. What better place to spend the rest of their lives than Ponyville? Especially because they're losing the vast majority of their money.
