I've been noticing lately, a tendency for people to try calling me a pretentious quasi-intellectual.
This is of course the internet, so I tend to not take things too seriously--if I had a dollar for every time someone called me a faggot...--but this is consistent enough, between multiple sites and forums that I'm curious as to where people are getting the idea.
Unfortunately, people who enjoy calling me that also tend to as a consequence, assume anything I say is sarcastic and as such, aren't especially helpful when I try getting a decent answer about why they think I'm pretentious.
A load of you guys have known me for one or two years at this point. So, Ineffable is curious, any ideas why people feel Ineffable is like this?

I wouldn't disagree with either. I am definitely both of those things, and can see how people would see that. It's just things like being seen as a pretentious, quasi-intellectual with a superiority complex that I have issues with.

Really confident people are usually accused of having superiority complexes and the like, don't pay it to much mind. It's something that's developed in the masses mind sets that you should have a set level of everything. You know, to be 'normal'. It's generally used as a derogatory term against people who use large, complicated words and try to do analysis without knowing what they're doing.
It's "Quasi-intellectual" because they are trying to act intelligent, without having anything to back up their behavior.

Well, I don't know why people think of you as a quasi-intellectual. Because I, for one, definitely think of you as VERY intelligent.
Like F4D3 said, you're flirty, but not in a bad way. And you can be sarcastic... but not to the point where others ought to think of you as pretentious.
In this humble cactus's viewpoint, it could be that blunt honesty that makes people think otherwise. Maybe others are so used to internet people being less than honest, that they're thrown the opposite way when given honesty that's rigid... if that makes sense.
So, I can possibly understand why they think you pretentious.... but a) can't fully understand why or how and b) don't think so myself.
