Lauren Faust to direct Medusa movie for Sony · 2:42am Jun 6th, 2014

Lauren Faust is attached to direct an animated movie for Sony Pictures entitled MEDUSA. The film, written by Todd Alcott and Holly Golden, will tell an all-new story behind the infamous snake-headed lady from Greek mythology

According to Sony Pictures Animation president of production Michelle Raimo Kouyate, MEDUSA will be "a clever, heartfelt animated comedy about a girl who’s having the ultimate bad hair day."

Lauren Faust said, "Todd and Holly's version of the tale of Medusa is filled with so many of my favorite ideas to work with: magic, mythology, humor and strong, funny, extremely relatable characters. I was excited by the idea of showing the comedy behind an otherwise horrific monster, and I was really drawn to the writer's unique re-imagining of Greek mythology. In our story, we meet Medusa as a young human, who, like so many of us, is overwhelmed with trying to fit a certain mold to please others. Her resulting popularity ticks off the wrong Goddess who turns her into the snake-haired monster we all know and fear. Medusa sets out on a quest to reverse this curse with the help of a goofy team of oddball and misfit mythological creatures who help her learn that what makes you different is, in fact, what makes you strong."

I don't think Sony realizes what a potential huge hit they have on their hands. Lauren Faust directing a story filled with mythological beasts in the wake of the Brony phenomenon? I can see fans of Faust flocking to the theaters to watch Medusa. The story's set in Greek Mythology. Will a pegasus plays a prominent role in the movie?

Don't forget that casting decisions can make or break a film. I was psyched when I heard that Genndy Tartakovsky was making an animated movie... until I learned that Adam Sandler was the star.

Hopefully Lauren Faust's signature style will be seen throughout Medusa. I'm psyched.

Snake fuckers rejoice. /s

Finally, someone else who doesn't think Adam Sandler is all that funny.

Brohoof. /)

But fer serious, this is gewd noose. I love Greek myth, and a movie based on one of my personal favorite tragic monsters, with input from the MLP Superjesus (also known as Lauren Faust also known as Lala First also known as Little Foot also known as Dr. McBippy), means it's gonna be one heck of a show.

I can't wait. In fact, I'mma go build a time machine so I won't have to wait! Or maybe carbon-freeze myself until its release date.

a clever, heartfelt animated comedy about a girl who’s having the ultimate bad hair day.

I read this, and I can't help but think "spiritual sequel to Tangled."

In any case, thanks for the news.

Psyched?

Psyched. :rainbowkiss:

You didn't like Hotel Transylvania?

Well, I will watch for this with interest, it sounds like it could be a hit!

Sounds kinda lame.eh. Suppose we'll have to wait and see for more info.

~Have a good one.

I liked Hotel Transylvania...

Also, I'm looking forward to this. It looks GOOD!

I heard Hotel Transylvania wasn't so bad. Nothing on the level of Pixar or today's Dreamworks flicks, but not terrible.

Anyhow, the last project I heard Lauren associated with was Wander Over Yonder, which has seemed to vanish.

Hotel Transylvania is actually one of my favorite 3D animated movies not made by Disney, Pixar or dreamworks

I'm gonna support this so hard when it comes out. I want to send a message that anything she touches turns to gold.
dolla dolla bills yo!

I find myself torn apart between my love of Lauren Faust's work and my hatred of changes in adapting Greek Mythology to movie. I will probably end up watching it anyways.

Also, now I feel good I saw Hotel Transylvania in spanish.

I'd be happy with that. (Seriously, Tangled is much better than the over-hyped and overrated Frozen.)

It was a decent movie, in spite of Sandler and his cronies being involved.:trixieshiftleft:

I like to watch Hotel Transylvania with the sound off and admire Genndy's amazing animation while trying to imagine better dialogue for the movie.

2180032
That does sound much better.

2180089

I dunno, I was able to pretty much ignore the terrible spots for the gems underneath. Just ask Gabe, he knows exactly which parts are completely priceless, because he and I are in total agreement.

2180085

I don't know about that. I'd rank them very similarly, in a lot of ways.

Stories aside, the underlying themes and evident thought processes at Disney seem to both be extremely well done and laudable.

I'll admit Frozen has obtained potentially more publicity relative to quality, but then, its story was more captivating to a lot of people. The Snow Queen isn't quite as well known as Rapunzel, and frankly, as much as I liked Tangled's writing, Frozen's plot was better.

I'd be interested to hear why you'd rank Tangled higher. I mean, the sheer amount of underlying symbolism was amazing, but taken holistically, Frozen at least makes that up in its less involved, but very positive themes.

Hotel Transylvania is pure, solid gold entertainment. That is all. :trixieshiftright:

Or maybe carbon-freeze myself until its release date.

Eric Cartman tried that for the Nintendo Wii. It didn't work out so well.

We usually have much more accord. But I liked Hotel Transylvania.

If anything, I had issues with Genndy Tartakovsky because his commentary was one of the most boring, worthless, meaningless things I have ever heard. It gave me failabeetus. I expected better from the creator of Dexter's Lab and Samurai Jack.

2198600
Maybe the reasosn why he sounded so bored was because his heart wasn't in it. Maybe this was merely a job for the paycheck and not done out of a creative passion. I don't know. I wasn't there.

2198605

I hope not. He's generally a good fellow.

I get the distinct impression you're sending me to Coventry. At this point my self esteem tells me I probably deserve it. Hopefully working on Tales from the Clop with endear me to you again.

2198632
There's no need to be so dramatic. You and I are in fine standings as far as I'm concerned. My only regret is that I'm not able to edit the stories you send me as quickly as I would like. I read over two of the chapters already and will work on the others for you soon.

2198776

It's only kind of dramatic. I haven't been sleeping well lately and so my stated is all messed up.

I'm just glad we're good. I do treasure your company.

2198826
It was never my intent to trivialize your emotional state by labeling it as 'dramatic.' If anything, I'm the one who has been a poor friend. I need to be more prompt in responding to requests for assistance.

You're a truly good fellow. It's why I talk you up all the time to all who will listen.
