Calm Wind

We writers do not speak. We do not hear. We have no songs. We have no pictures. We only have scripture. From words we bring images. From words we bring emotion. From words we bring life.

my face when a story that i spent a lot of time on and has barely gotten a fraction of the attention my other fics have reaches 500 views...

My loner story: Hard Pressed to Impress, featuring a bumbling Rarity trying to impress a seemingly perfect Fancy Pants, finally reached 500 views after about 6 months.

While it is not as important to the timeline as most of my other stories, it was meant to flesh out the character of both Fancy Pants and Rarity within my universe.

You can imagine how depressed i felt when it received little attention, especially after my previous fic (HEAD IN THE CLOUDS) received LOTS of attention. I was tempted to take it down because of it's initial view count of 10 views over a week, but i let hold a space in my story archive with pride.

It may have been a oneshot, but it is full of very fine details and descriptions of things, more so than any other fic i've written. It took me a long time to both write and properly edit. Be proud Hard Pressed, you are among a lot of fics that have draw more attention, but you are still very special to me.

Thank you all who have read it, i really appreciate it ^_^

I'm glad you finally reached that 500 mark. I personally liked the more refined dynamic Rarity and Fancy Pants have together in that story as a nice contrast to your other stories.

Keep on writing and I'll keep on reading :scootangel:

It's easy to see why head in the clouds received so much attention. People really like the soarin and rainbow dash ship.

I have to admit I haven't actually read Hard Pressed but now that you have brought it up the way you have, I fell inclined to give it a read.

Ehh, I thought it was great. Honestly to start off I didn't really want to read it but when I stated seeing that all the stories fit in together I started reading all of them so I could get the full time line. That was a great fic. Those that haven't read are missing out.

Keep it up. Can't wait for the next fic.

Hard Pressed To Impress was awesome! Others probably aren't reading it because Rarity's a whiny bitch and the least favorited mane 6 character. I still don't understand why she's the element of generosity...

I think one of the factors is that it's my only story that features no romance of any kind. The only tag is slice of life. I get the feeling that romance is a popular genre :rainbowwild:

yes. very. it's probably the thing i have the most of.

2129711 Oh romance is by far the most popular genre on the site after crossovers.

That's definitely what i learned after hard pressed. But i didn't want every one of the mane six getting a stallion, i didnt want it to become redundant.:duck:

Don't worry! Everyone starts at that point sometime. I promise, it will receive more attention on the future.:pinkiehappy::ajsmug::raritystarry::rainbowdetermined2: I personally thought it was a GREAT story! And I can only imagine how hard it was to characterize Rarity without any major writing experiences with her. So stay calm, Calm Wind! Pun completely intended! :pinkiehappy::rainbowlaugh:

aw thanks

Yeah, it was overall a bit of a challenge.

I am admittedly not the best at writing for Rarity. I usually end up using her as gossipy comic relief :raritystarry:

A certain amount of femininity is needed to understand and convey her character, not to mention all the makeup and that she makes dresses. As a man, i lack a lot of knowledge just to get in her head :raritydespair: But at least i tried with her. I frankly didn't try at all with Twilight, whom i also have trouble writing for :facehoof:

Again thank you :raritywink:

For writing Rarity I usually put darling in every few sentences and it works out fine.:rainbowlaugh: I'll get around to reading it though......one day........same as all your other fics.:pinkiecrazy: But first, more JoJo's Bizarre Adventure!!:pinkiehappy:

2130229 I haven't written any stories yet, but I can say for certain I won't be trying a Twilight story anytime soon. If I did, well...:trixieshiftleft:

Let's just say that the local bookstore will have a certain Thesaurus section all cleared up. :scootangel:

Is it bad that I can't remember if I read it or not?

this is the one story where i'd understand that :rainbowlaugh::raritydespair:

I actually liked it when I read it... The characterization of Rarity was better than you give yourself credit for. :raritywink:

Having thought about it, I have come to believe that Twilight is the hardest character to write for. Yes, she does have personality quirks and traits, but as for tone of voice and speech patterns, aside from making her sound vaguely erudite, there's not a lot there to grip onto. :twilightoops: Writing a Twilight centered story that focused on HER, rather than her magical abilities, would seem to be quite the challenge. :facehoof:

Thank you :raritystarry:

and i wholly agree. Twilight is one of those personalities that's very specific in a special kind of way. I always pictured her as being a little out there, having a certain way she likes to approach things, but still never quite does the same way twice.

It's easy to go with "nerdy girl" but that kind of personality MUST be very unique and almost built entirely from the ground up. I've known a few bookwormy girls in my life and each one of them had their own way of doing everything :rainbowderp::twilightsheepish:
