    I'm (still) not quite dead...

I'm sorry, I am so very sorry for the lack of updates on, well, anything. A few of you have probably noticed that I've still been putting in the occasional appearance or comment, but as for chapter updates...yeah I've barely written anything for months for various reasons - work sucks, arranging a couple vacations, a falling out in my D&D group of 14 years, and just a sort of malaise that

    When you're writing a chapter...

And listening to music to keep yourself in the mood, and then you hear a song that has you suddenly realize that you've been writing the entire chapter wrong and should have instead been basing it around the song - not necessarily using the song directly (especially since that would be against site rules concerning wholesale copying of lyrics), but certainly drawing on it for inspiration.

The Good News and the Bad News

The good news is that I got a root canal on Monday. No more pain in teeth. Yay!

The bad news is that I was 3/4ths of the way through the next chapter of Midnight Castle (~5000 words) and realized that I was writing it totally wrong. I need to go back to practically the start and change up a lot, though I'm salvaging lines and paragraphs wherever I can.

Lunaverse Two-Year Anniversary! · 4:03am May 13th, 2014

Two years ago today - though admittedly a little later in the day - I was wrapping up a fic called Longest Night, Longest Day and decided that I had a rather larger number of possible stories to tell in the Lunaverse that I wanted to tell. Not long after, the Lunaverse got its first story not written by me. A second soon followed, and with that, the Lunaverse officially became not just my universe, but a shared universe. Even if I was providing guidance these past two years, even if it was my sandbox initially, the Lunaverse is not my creation. It is our creation.

This past year has been a bit of a rough patch for us. We're still the largest shared universe on FiMFiction in terms of numbers of followers, but our rate of new stories and updates to those stories has slowed down notably, and we've been a little bit harder on each other and ourselves over long-standing issues about how each individual member of the Lunaverse wants it to head, compared to every other member. I blame myself for that - for imposing a hiatus on new stories until after Crisis was finished, and for taking so long to finish it.

Even still, it's no coincidence that I decided to make the motto of the Lunaverse's main characters "onwards and upwards." We can get out of this rough patch by continuing to do our best and working together to move the Lunaverse forward. Part of that can be achieved by reaching out to other MLP communities, forums, and sites by trying to increase the fandom's awareness of our little section of it, as I think we've jut about gone as far as we can by word-of-mouth alone.

I have some other ideas, but for now, let's set that aside. Today is the Lunaverse's two-year anniversary. Let's celebrate!

Excellent speech, and as you said, onward and upwards!

Wait, I just celebreated my two year anniverary on this site, we came out here together around the same time. No wonder I feel such a deep connection to the great and powerful Trixie!

I have to say your shared universe creates some of my most consistently favorite stories on this site. Congratulations to all you authors who contribute and I'm happy to see it still going strong!

Now hurry up and get more stuff out!! :)

Congratulations, RDD! Now let's keep writing! For great justice!

Onwards and upwards! :pinkiehappy:

Congratulation to all of us! I wish I could help with the reaching of other parts of the fandom but I'm not really active anywhere else worthwhile hahahaha.

I should really get on with finishing Andalantis and start on my season 2 fic... :facehoof:

Congratulations. And let's not Roget the AUs inspired by this AU: the Cadanceverse and the newborn Shimmerverse. Without you I don't know if either of these AUs would have ever come to fruition. You're an inspiration to aspiring writers in a sense, because you showed a frankly brilliant idea that had implications beyond itself.

Happy anniversary to the Lunaverse. Yes, we have problems, but a lot of good's come out of it.

Through ups or downs the 'verse certainly has grown. Many thanks to you RDD for starting this up, and thanks to everyone else for doing their parts to make this little slice of the fandom an interesting place to hang.

Happy anniversary.

Speaking of, did anything happen to the original announcement you made to open the Lunaverse up into a shared universe? For random reasons I was looking for it recently and couldn't find a blog post matching what I remember, but I might have my wires crossed and am thinking of a completely separate shared universe.

Here is the original announcement of the group's existence. On the group's front page, meanwhile, I had a request for other people to write stories in it.

This is the original brainstorming thread, meanwhile, where I suggested some ideas for other people to write.

2107652 Hah! Second comment in that thread and everything.

But was that really the original public announcement of the shared universe idea, and not just the group? It mentions the idea as if it was something that had already been discussed elsewhere.

I think I mentioned that I wanted to try and make it a shared universe in the comments of Longest Night, Longest Day a few times.

Congratulations and thank you for two years of great stories and for inspiration to start my own (very small and crappy still, but growing) universe.
