So, today, as a birthday present for my little brother (who's birthday was yesterday btw, he's 11), we went to go see The Winter Solider.
During the course of the movie, it slowly dawned on my nerdy, pony loving mind that there was no possible way that normal, equine shaped ponies could do half of what they do in the movie. Mostly because I really, really tried to envision normal ponies doing all that jazz (such as Bucky and his metal arm). As much as I tried, I just couldn't get my brain to find a logical way to have either AB or AJ wield their weapons without looking...off, to say the least.
Upon this realization, I promptly dunked my head into my popcorn and sobbed like a little baby....
Not really, the movie is just too fucking awesome for me to do that. No, honestly I just kinda accepted it.
Its kinda a relief really, since at least that way, I can have some ease in writing action sequences (especially hand-to-hand combat), and I can finally start contributing to the HORRIFICALLY low number of good quality, non-clop anthro stories (admit it, outside of clop, good quality anthro usually isn't seen on the site)
Well, this now means i have to go through my stories and tweak them. Good news is that it luckily won't affect continuity or anything like that, and is really more for me as an author/fan of anthro.
I am so incredibly sorry for making you guys get all bent up and out of shape over something that really is incredibly frivolous to most of you, but it was really bugging me, and i just feel I should be honest with myself in this department. I obviously don't intend to alienate any of my readers, or say 'fuck you!' to those who said 'no anthro'. I just honestly can't wrap my head around normal ponies doing half this stuff.
I apologize greatly for the sudden change, but a choice is a choice.
Hopefully you all understand, and aren't angry/disappointed/mad.

Ahh well. It is your decision, and we can't really make demands one way or another. I do wish you luck sir, but, personally, I'm not sure that I'll still follow them this way.
Ehh, you know, whenever I read anthro fics anyways, I always just imagine ponies anyhow. So that decision really doesn't affect me all that much, go ahead and do what you want. It's your story after all.

Also as another suggestion you COULD make it the first Centaur fic of this magnitude. Seriously centaur fics are surprisingly rare. I mean you'd THINK that would be more of a thing with this fandom.

2099186 Well, I like centuar's as much as the next guy, but I know full well that THAT much of a change is really heading into jump the shark territory, mostly because it then leads to really having to completely restructure EVERYTHING in the verse (since Centaurs are a half-and-half and also just lead to headaches).
That doesn't mean I can't have centaur's show up at some point in the future though. It's just that, none of the main characters nor most of the others are centaurs.

JUST sayin' I think Centaurs are drastically underutilized by this fandom. Which again is just bizarre since we have anthros, and humanized fics, and yet barely anyone thinks to go for a fusion of both of those concepts.

In regards to Flutterhulk and your dislike for showing explicit material in your work, I have a suggestion:
When she hulks out for the first time, she does end up nude (thought not shown in detail), and after one or two more hulk outs, she finds clothes that can stretch very far (perhaps specially made from Pearl's fashion line).

Honestly, I don't care much of what you do. I've always found that suspension of disbelief has always manage to allow me to believe that ponies could work just fine with complex finger handled objects. Now, giving somepony a thumbs up or something like that, yeah a little much to buy.
But them handling a gun or a knife without difficulty is a bit easier for me to understand. After all, why would they create weapons in their world, without being able to use them? (Unless that's why there is no war in Equestria, but that's a discussion for another day)
But, as the author of your stories, you need to do what is best for them. If you think that the anthro route is a good one for your story, then just do it. Don't listen to this idiot . You gotta do what you gotta do.

Well, being a Lazy guy, i would suggest, not adjusting the old stuff, and just, when the format switches to Anthro, put a Like along size ">Activating Style Shift", and suddenly everyones a Anthro, and no one notices... cept Deadpool, of course.
2100820 Since they always show ponies using their hooves, specifically the wrist between their hoof and leg, to grab and manipulate stuff, I always imagine their guns if they had any as having just REALLY big trigger guards to fit a hoof through. Essentially LOOK like a regular gun, but well this will explain better

Look at the Doctor Whooves one, next to the skeleton. Gun with really big trigger guard and has a part to rest on the other hoof.

In most stories that focus heavily on superhero action I encourage it, if only because SEEING a pony do stuff like that on screen is one thing but trying to describe it is kinda hard. Not saying impossible, just....... hard. Especially if it involves stuff like guns and what not.

Wouldn't it be easier though just to leave the other stories as they are and just put a note on "Winter Soldier" saying that it's supposed to be part of the same continuity but you had to give them hands for this particular story?
That way you can do what you have to do for that specific story without having to adjust all the other ones or put them under a category that those who aren't a fan of often also have a negative image of
....Which admittedly includes me, I know that some people like the design aesthetics of "Anthro" without taking it into more....uncomfortable territory even if there are enough that do to ruin it for the rest of you, but the typical designs rarely look right to me and I tend to avoid it. (Again, a big part of the issue I have is such designs not meshing with my own aesthetic sensibilities; I just want to clarify this since the last person I had a similar conversation with missed that bit and ended up trying to explain things I already knew)
Saying that, it might be be best to just keep going with the Pony designs for a bit and see if maybe something else comes to mind; even if they are relatively small things adjusting several stories for the sake of one is a lot of effort compared to just making one a bit different and labeling it as such. Plus this story is quite far off; you still have half of Ironmare & Captain Equestria, The Avengers, and (at least the beginning of) the sequels for Soar & Ironmare to work out a simpler (and less controversial) solution. Especially since you aren't directly transposing the films into the story and changing the character names, you take some liberties and make the stories something distinct that still retain the most important elements while having important and distinct elements of their own like the side stories with Rarity's family, Trixie's struggle and how Flutterhulk & Soar are tied together by Scootaloo.
And if all else fails you can just drop Lyra in as an engineer who has made devices that can be worn to give the front legs psuedo-fingers and make the user move manuverable on their hind legs. That way you don't have to adjust the existing stories, making changes that some take issue with and you can whip "Lyratech" out whenever you get stuck and really need the Ponies to have more human features for a little bit

Ah, but then that creates a VERY UGLY Continuity Snarl, and would feel like a pointless, unwarrented shift in style for just one story, which then makes it a Big Lipped Alligator Moment franchise wise.
As for the 'not meshing with my sensiblities' I totally feel ya. I hate clop too, and am equally sick of Anthro!Porn. But, if worst comes to worst, you can just mentally replace 'hand' with 'hoof' and so on and so forth, since, during the editing, I realized I never really went out of my way to say that these were ponies beyond that minor anotomical detail (i.e. I rarely, if ever, pointed out that they walked on four legs. I just said 'they walked' or 'galloped')
And don't worry about me suddenly slacking off and just copy-pasting Winter Soldier into Winter Filly or with any of my other stories. There are buckets of ideas I have to make it more unique (be it a minor detail or a major plot point being changed), and I also don't like it when authors get lazy.
In the end, I really did think hard about this, and I know that some might not like it, but I feel it's the easiest way to tell the stories overall, be it right now or in the future (for instance, AJ wielding a shield with the quadrupedal gate of a normal pony was something I dreaded writing.)
