Regidar recently posted a request for links to experimental fics. I decided to just add a bookshelf, Experimental, and list my favorite and my own experimental stories there. (My stories will probably appear first, because I added
That most-peculiar book, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, describes in Fit the Fourth how representatives of the Amalgamated Union of Philosophers, Sages, Luminaries, and other professional thinking persons confronted Deep Thought, the second greatest computer in the universe, when it threatened to find the answer to
Lots of cons have panels where people read bad fan-fiction for laughs. But they never have panels where people read good fan-fiction. So I'm going to propose one, at every con I go to.
You've got the Jews. They only like the original work, even though THAT is not canon and is actually at least two and probably more like four stories cut together. I mean, it contradicts itself all over, so you can't even really call it canon.
Then you've got the Christians. Grabbed a bunch of fanfiction and called it canon. And then translated it into a bunch of languages and said that the translations were more canon than the original. KJV may have done a nice job making the translation sound pretty, but some of his followers get really upset if you point out that maybe he mistranslated some parts...
Then some schmuck in the US decided he wanted to write ANOTHER sequel (and marry a bunch of girls). THAT went over like a lead balloon with most of them, but he has his fans.
And that's not even considering that jerk Mohammad and his whole "AU/Reimagining" fic written in Arabic. And the whole Ba'hai thing that most people really aren't into, even though it is kind of big in the Middle East (not as big as the whole Mohammad thing though; that guy has like a billion followers).
Freaking fanfic writers, man. Why can't they just respect the work of the original author?
2039446 Hey, God's a fanfiction author too. The best. And why couldn't he be? It's a free universe...that he made. So yeah. We and our fanfiction don't need you! Go have fun in your fanfictionless universe why don't you! xD

You analysts complain about everything that's not explicitly explained in the original work (and then complain that the parts that are explicitly stated are too wordy). Your headcanon and wishes failing to hold up don't make a work contradictory.

Sweet.
I find this conversation both believable and hilarious. Thank you for sharing.
This is perfect. Whenever someone complains about something being canon or not, I'm going to show them this.
Okay that's funny. And I say that as a canon-nazi.

I always figured you were a Wondermark Reader.
Funny how the conversation ends there when it could go on for a few cycles.
BWAHAHA!

Dante is totally legit, though.

2039446 Not that AU reimagining of Dante. I admit, it was a nice idea, but Dante was a little bit too OOC for me to accept it as canon.
2038818 Canon is always canon.
2038649 raises hand so... Canon is nice and it works, but non-canon is a train wreck?

So, Nikon is non-Canon, then. But where do you stand on Kodak vs. Fujifilm vs. Agfa?

2039753 Actually, Little Dick is saying if you don't like canon, toss it. This becomes necessary for one's sanity when creators make odd choices.
2040279 Well, I look at it the right way and use the right type of film, I can call it headcanon, but really I'm just fooling myself.

Man, this makes me think of Rob Paravonian's rant.
