I feel like I should write something.

Dunno what, not a continuation of any of my stories yet, just something to prime the pump. The plump pump. The pleasantly plump pump of doom.

On the art of Not Writing.

I've been in a weird limbo for the last couple of years. The simplest, and maybe even the most honest thing to say is that I've lost interest in writing, but that doesn't feel right to say. I have lost my interest, but I still want to be interested. I've wondered if maybe it's time to move on from MLP, but I don't know what I'd even move on to.

I like to ride my bicycle, I like to ride my bike.

    So.

Yesterday I decided that I wanted to take my shiny new mountain bike mountain biking. I obtained it through perfectly legal means (no, really) about two months ago and so far I'd only really used it for grocery shopping. Yeah, there was that one trip in the mountains about a week after I bought it, but that was only one trip and I'm getting fat.

    It really is.

Twilight Sparkle was humming to herself as she placed the last skull at one of the points of the pentagram on her basement floor when Rainbow Dash walked in, surveyed the candle-lit scene, said “Uh...” and backed slowly out again.

Twilight looked at the empty doorway, looked down at the pentagram, looked back up, connected the dots, and scrambled to catch up with her friend.

Ponyfinder · 3:08am Apr 9th, 2014

So I recently got the Ponyfinder PDF and it's looking pretty good. At first glance, nothing seems overpowered, and I experienced some frustration trying to build a pegasus rogue for a solo campaign because nothing stood out as the obvious right way to play. But now I'm frustrated because that rogue is probably the only pony character I'll ever get to play, and I'm not even one hundred percent sure that game will happen. Somebody needs to start a new game so I can join it!

Send me the PDF and I will get some people together. I've been trying to get a Ponyfinder game together for some time now, and the PDF would help!

Ponyfinder? Huh, never heard of it...I don't think, anyway.

I've been playing in a Roleplaying Is Magic campaign for months, and it is a blast. Of course, we pretty much don't use the combat rules at all, it is a pony game...

Well, ours is kind of full, but if anyone drops out or we have an opening show up, more then welcome to join in again.

And yeah Ponyfinder is great.

I'm of mixed opinions on Ponyfinder. The setting has quadrupeds, but overall doesn't feel very pony to me. It may have something to do with all the carnivores in the setting.

It's hardly broken, it just loses a lot of the feel of FiM.

wait, wait wait. am i to understand somebody made a equestrian version of pathfinder tabletop rpg and i missed this!!??
ive been an avid tabletop gamer for 24 years and have been putzing around with a d20 modern pathfinder hybrid to play in a game like that.
i.....i must find this wonderful thing.
and did they include griffons and changelings as playable races without giving them a gigantic level adjustment.

1993706 I don't feel comfortable sending the pdf because I bought it, but you can get it yourself here and the physical book here.

1994393 Yeah, I get you. That's actually something that I like about it though, MLP really doesn't fit with Pathfinder anyway because Pathfinder is a combat-oriented system and the MLP setting needs a more social system. The Ponyfinder setting takes inspiration from MLP, but then goes on to make its own thing, and it's kind of awesome. I never really wanted to re-tread the show anyway.

1994552 They did, along with several new pony varieties and a few completely new races as well. It's actually less "MLP in Pathfinder" and more "mythical creatures as play-balanced PC's." I haven't tried making or playing a Changeling, called "Doppleganger," in Ponyfinder or Griffon, but I can tell that they put quite a bit of thought into balancing them. While the Doppleganger does still have the potential to be overpowered, you have to give up some starting bonuses, spend two feats, and be level 9 to do it, and thus limits you to being overpowered in only one area (disguise self, and even then, only +10 with no penalties for disguising as different races and genders), putting it in tier two or three instead of one. The griffon seemed overpowered at first because they get a natural attack and better flight than the pegasi, but then I realized the pegasi get an extra feat, and the griffons have a lower cap on how much they can improve their flight ability.

The races in it are earth ponies, unicorns, pegasi, changelings, crystal ponies, bat ponies, seaponies (sort of), zebras, flutterponies, Antean (giant ponies), Ghost Ponies (not actually ghosts, but can go incorporeal), chaos hunters (ponies that... hunt... chaos...), clockwork, steelheart (not sure why they included two different half-construct pony types), and for the non-pony races, goats, griffons, phoenix wolves, purrsians (flying cats), and sun cats (lions).

Be warned if you want to play show-accurate ponies though, the abilities the characters had in the show had to be heavily nerfed in order to balance the system with the rest of Pathfinder.

if im going to role play, straight show accurate would be dull as hell. alt universe equestria or border kingdom's equestria hell yes that sounds awesome.
frankly a show accurate version roleplaying game would be about as interesting as the rpg paranoia without a batshit insane ship a.i. and rampant crazy.

1996228 A man after my own heart. Let me know what you think when you finally get to try it out.

1997368 hopefully that shall be soon cause if i have the money after bills and wife im ordering the hardback tomorrow for sure.
thanks for the info and descriptions in your replys not to mention the link.
stay awesome and roleplay on.

Hello everypony,

Couldn't help but notice the conversation and get the urge to drop a link to where one can grab Ponyfinder if they wish: https://silvergamesllc.com/shop/

Glad to hear the positive comments! We worked hard to make an interesting world and hope to continue doing so in the next book, Griffons of Everglow.

Thanks,
David
