The Inspiration for "Friends Forever" · 4:00am Mar 29th, 2014

I've noticed that a lot of people have taken a liking to my recent one shot Friends Forever, and it even ended up in the Featured Box! To all of you who have read my story, favorited it, and enjoyed it, I thank you very much. So I just wanted to say here what my inspiration for the story was as the origins for its concept lie in a fandom outside of MLP: the Frozen fandom.
Yes, I'm sure many of you are aware of Disney's latest hit: Frozen: the story of a princess-turned-queen named Elsa cursed with unpredictable ice powers who, following the unintentional revealing of her powers following her coronation, accidentally casts an eternal winter over her land of Arendelle. Her younger sister Anna then sets out to help bring her back home with the help of a group of colorful, fun characters.
Now, I know what you're all thinking right now. How the hell does a family-friendly Disney film about sisterly love and talking snowmen have anything to do with a one-shot about the tormented, broken soul of Twilight Sparkle haunting her friends? Well, the answer to that lies not within Frozen itself but rather in an interesting alternate universe created by its fandom.
You see (spoilers about the beginning of Frozen ahead), Frozen begins with Elsa and Anna as kids. While entertaining Anna with her powers, Elsa accidentally blasts Anna in the head and severely injures her. Now, in the film, Anna's life is saved by a clan of magical rock trolls with them simultaneously healing her injuries while erasing all her memories of Elsa's powers. Now there's a song following this called "Do You Wanna Build a Snowman", which is basically a musical montage featuring young Anna asking Elsa to play with her but Elsa refusing out of her fear of hurting Anna again. A little while ago, some guy decided to take that song and remix it in G MAJOR. The results are...interesting.
And do you guys remember how WoodenToaster's "Rainbow Factory" inspired the fanfic of the same name? Well, since its release, this remix of "Do You Wanna Build a Snowman" has led the creation of an alternate universe within the Frozen fandom that depicts a reality where Anna died from the injuries Elsa accidentally inflicted upon her; and, as a result, Anna now haunts Elsa as a wight (basically a combination of an evil spirit and a zombie) and knocks on her door every night, asking her to come out and play with her.

Starting to see the connections now? A pretty good fanfic that was based around this Frozen AU acted as a huge inspiration for the events and writing style of Friends Forever.
So...yeah. That was the inspiration for Friends Forever. Hope you all enjoyed this little fun fact.

wow, that's, cool? I guess?
So, I wont Be sleeping Tonight, that is too creepy.
whatever inspired it your story is amazing. i guess i should actually watch frozen at some point now if it is that ripe for a horror a.u.
Wow the Frozen fanfiction is actually better than the actual Frozen movie
Wow, interesting background, and to think Frozen looked like you generic POS money maker, in no small amount thanks to the cheesy trailers.
Well, I wasn't expecting that as the inspiration for your biggest story to date. Perhaps it's appropriate given Frozen is one of the biggest animated movies to date.
I really should see Frozen one of these days. You know I've already been percolating the possibility of writing some Once Upon a Time fanfictions where I basically do the OUAT versions of Frozen and Tangled and possibly Enchanted and Brave as well. I can already envision Rumplestiltskin being the one to fix Anna.
"All magic comes with a price, dearie," Rumplestiltskin said to Elsa. "Are you sure you can pay it?"
