If you haven't read this, you need to

Fresh from the "it's a crime if this doesn't get featured" list, is the short story Riverdream At Sunset.

It's written as an 1800's period piece, with trappings more than reminiscent of Doyle or Verne and absolutely hits the spot on the whole look and feel.

I blame it on Terry Pratchett

Years ago, at school, I picked up a book. I blame what happened next on Terry Pratchett.

    state of the bunny, 2015

    So it's a new year.

The previous one has passed much like every other one did, with a bang as much as with a whimper. For a while here, it was sodding cold, and I mean real proper brass monkey weather. Right now it's barely below zero, and instead of snow we've got rain and ice. Seriously, I could skate down my driveway.

"chrysalis vs hearth's warming" may be a little late

    I know, I know: I missed hearth's warming.

Well, I'm still writing my christmas special so you'll just have to wait. I think it'll be worth it...

it features everyone's favourite changeling queen and her endless quest to destroy all love and happiness everywhere - this time by blowing up cinder claws and destroying hearth's warming. And how that doesn't quite go according to plan...

santa middymas is coming to town

I made a list, I checked it twice. Not sure to find out how is naughty or nice...

Anywag, the winners of my admittedly haphazard and wonky contest were:

the world just got a little bit better · 6:10pm Mar 23rd, 2014

two people famed for being douchenuggets have left the planet and have ceased using our oxygen and/or air waves (though only one of them permanently). Huzzah!

Who are these people you speak of? I see no people!

Who was the second one

Part of me wants to go protest Fred Phelps's funeral or grave site... but I honestly just don't feel like expending the energy. That there wasn't even a big news story about it, that no one really reacted with huge celebrations, was the best possible thing. The guy wasn't worth the effort or worthy of the attention in life, so why would he in death? Not even fuck him at this point, just... meh.

i know of Fred Phelps, may he burn in damnation for eternity, but who was th' other?

the first was fred "god hates fags" phelps. I'm pretty sure somebody loved him, but quite honestly the net effect on the world is a positive that he is no longer breathing. If that man can be said to have done at least one good thing in his life, it was that it ended.

The other absence is a much-maligned SJW that has closed her wretched little hate-filled tumblr and will hopefully never be heard from again. Ding dong, the pinkiepony is dead. I won't miss you.

And, quite simply, that's all there is to it.

1949157
Sorry, I'm unfollowing you. I don't think you're bad but I just don't like people who can be happy when other people die. I'm talking about homophobia here and I'm not discussing the Bible (the Old Testament does prohibit gay male sex, but it also does prohibit 'spilling your seed' and so on and so forth and is, frankly, outdated) and I'm not discussing the person in question. It's just wrong to be happy of somebody's death, as bad as they seemed to you. But that's my opinion and I'll receive your downvotes humbly.

1949157 you're kidding, right? someone with that level of hate is either going to end up on Fox news or working for Fox news.

1949157
I am honestly going to have to agree with 1949179 here.. Speaking as a bisexual male, I honestly disagree with what Fred Phelps did, but... that's just not something I can agree with.

1949221
Mmm... sparky... you make ne so hot when you're agreeing with me~

1949179
I don't need to downvote, and you can unfollow all you like. There are very few people in this world who actively made it worse for others for so little a reason as sexual orientation or belief, and the Phelps clan head was one of them. I'm not going to dance on his grave, I'm not going to even mark this date on my calendar - not more, at least, than this - I'm just going to say "he died, and though I'm sure it's a great loss to the people who loved him, I am also quite sure that the people who he verbally and mentally attacked with his shameful displays of hatred and bigotry may now rest easier in their beds."

It's just a reminder that everything ends, even hate-filled bigots.

The difference here is that, even if I could, I would not be picketing his funeral nor hanging signs up all over town. Just one tiny little otherwise-unremarked blog. My hope is that perhaps with him gone, the rest of the family members living in fear and abuse will find a way to leave and get back the lives that he took from them, like the ones that already have.

1949225
If you had phrased it that way to begin with, then I would have had no problem. But to be so callous and hateful, with no regard to a human life... That's what I disagree with.

1949221
Oh I totally agree with his legal right - if not moral right - to do exactly what he did. I mean that is a cornerstone of Western society: freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom of expression.

And it is in that same spirit that I now "speak ill of the dead". He was not a nice person, and the world is better off without him in it. I don't hope he is in hell, I don't have feverish fantasies about him suffering, I am just glad that he can no longer spread hate.

That is, quite simply, my right. If you feel upset that I can voice dislike about somebody who is dead then I think you need to re-evaluate your life choices.

1949238
It is with plenty of regard that I weighed my opinion of his 80-something years on this planet. He started off as a promising lawyer, did some real good, and then... fucked up. He got disbarred and, instead of turning his life around, made it his quest to abuse, insult and attack certain groups of people for their life and lifestyle choices.

He made life hell for, and brought pain and suffering to, many people who quite honestly did not deserve it. And I don't care that it was his faith that made him do it, that does not excuse it. The same book he deliberately chose to represent as being one that meant he should wave banners around saying barely-dead people are burning in hell also is quite clear on the role of compassion and love. And he had none.

He reaped what he sowed.

My original blog post was short and lacked both names and details because that's all it was intended to be. If you're upset that I didn't explain myself until you asked, then you should either read my longer explanation or stick to the anonymous nature of the original post.

1949238
I'm really sorry but...

Ding, dong, the witch is dead.

1949295
And in case there are some folk who don't understand, I am not saying that pinkiepony is either dead or should be. She has, however, apparently closed her tumblr.

Since she is an attention-whoring SJW, I'm sadly pretty sure she'll be back, which is why I won't be doing any linking or further talking about her, but every minute without her making things worse for the real issues that do still exist, the better.

And "ding dong the witch is dead" is what she said after she lied to the authorities to get JJ's tumblr taken down. Quid pro quo.

1949133
I think it's a good sign. The right can't crow about him dying because they loved him. They stood up for "traditional" values like homophobia, bigotry and hatred of jews. The left... isn't that crass. His epitaph is literally "his church threw him out, and then he died". I'm not a good enough person to be sorry to the family for their loss - though I do honestly feel sorry for the children in that family, I'm also pretty sure they may just be better off without him too. He didn't, by all accounts from the children who have left, make a happy home around him.

1949247
I apologize if I came across as hateful towards you, or your right to voice your own opinion. I was merely voicing my own opinion towards how you went about saying it.

Because I could not be more against everything that he did, and started. None of it was right, nor should it be condoned.

If you feel upset that I can voice dislike about somebody who is dead then I think you need to re-evaluate your life choices.

That was honestly unneeded..
1949279

If you're upset that I didn't explain myself until you asked, then you should either read my longer explanation or stick to the anonymous nature of the original post.

I didn't ask. I showed up after the explanation had already been given. If you're referring to your first comment, anyway. And if your 'longer explanation' consists of your previous comment, I have read it.

I should have just refrained from commenting and causing this unneeded strife. My apologies again for commenting without thinking about how my statement may be taken. Feel free to delete my comments if you so choose. I never intended to make you 'explain yourself.' I just stated my opinion on the matter and left. I do appreciate that you were considerate in your responses, when I had been so careless with my initial one.

1949302
Actually, that was all about Fred Phelps. :ajsmug:

I have caught the occasional glance of pinkiepony's tumblr drama though, and I can't say I'm not glad she has finally removed herself from the internet.

1949365
I know, but I don't actually wish the death of almost anybody, and there are some people with knee-jerk reactions...

1949326

. The right can't crow about him dying because they loved him. They stood up for "traditional" values like homophobia, bigotry and hatred of jews.

Um, please do not lump me in with that asshole.

1949326

The right can't crow about him dying because they loved him.

No they didn't. He was as ostracised by conservative circles as he was by the left. He literally had no allies because he flung his bile in every direction.

1949133 said it best. He is not worth the time. That is the reason his death is met with such a resounding silence.

1949424
1949399
Then I stand corrected. It's also why I didn't name him straight up.

And Jake, that is why I put quote marks around "traditional" - that word is used as a crutch to defend bigotry and hatred far too often.

1949157

I may be wrong, but it is my understanding that Pinkiepony closed her tumblr in reaction to the fallout of her latest crusade. She had taken aim at Button Mash shortly before Hasbro sent a C&D to Jananimations. Her nasty outcry of joy at the C&D caused a rumor to spread that she was responsible for Hasbro targeting Jananimations. From what I gather, the reaction against her was more than she was ready to handle (particularly considering the high chance that she wasn't responsible), and that has triggered her public withdrawl. Sadly, I would expect it to be temporary.

1949499
It wouldn't surprise me. She's one of those... type-a personalities or whatever they call it, that needs to be fed attention or it withers up under its own shallowness. I won't say she got what she deserved, but she did get exactly what I would have expected. Crow about shutting things down after actively trying to do just the same and you're going to get the blame. She'll be back once she's finished licking her wounds and can twist what happened in her own head until she's a hero again. She'll keep coming back, too, until the internet stops feeding her.

Although I understand what you are saying and why you said it, I simply can't feel any joy at the passing of another person just because they were an ass-hat. I don't believe in the existence of the afterlife, and so I always hope that even the meanest, nastiest and most abusive SOB will, at least at some point before they die, learn to love and be loved by their fellow human beings, and finally know peace before their flame is forever extinguished.

1949596
Maybe he did repent. He did get thrown out of his church, after all. It's funny, it's not that I'm glad he died or is dead, but that I'm happy the world is a slightly better place. And I don't believe my relatively quiet, constrained dislike of who he was, what he did or what he stood for changes that.

A dumb question, but what does SJW mean? I see it in a few comments but not familiar with the term.

1949914
"social justice warrior" - a derogatory term for somebody who purports to "fight the good fight" but is usually doing so by missing the point and being a massive douchenugget to everyone, being what s/he is standing against and in general making things worse for those with real issues.

For instance, many "feminists" are actually just misandrysts in disguise, and will seek to silence any male voice on the pretext that "the patriarchy" rules everything, so protecting male rights is "wrong".

Now I'm not saying all mra's deserve listening to, because plenty don't, but equal rights should mean equal rights, no? Not special rights?

That's weird, I could swear I just read a thing about Pinkiepony coming back. <.<

I am with you on this. Both individuals.

And not a moment too soon.

I never liked the WBC, but I truly feel something like this is far better than some sort of massive demonstration. Good on those guys.

They get ALL my moustaches!
:moustache::moustache::moustache::moustache::moustache::moustache::moustache::moustache::moustache::moustache:

I'm with you 100%. Every indication is that if Fred Phelps had the power, he would have committed wholesale genocide upon millions of people. Luckily, he didn't, all he could do was spread filth and hatred through the world. I almost never, EVER celebrate death, but we are legitimately all better off without him on the planet.

1950251 i wasn't talking about him.

After doing a bit of research it seems like PinkiePony didn't really delete her tumblr. You can still access the archive by adding /archive at the end of the link, and tumblr still displays the "Follow" button in the corner, which you can't do for deactivated blogs.

She's merely laying low for now.
