Story's doing decent, pre-readers think I'm improving · 7:40am Dec 19th, 2011
I'm most likely going to have more time to work on my story Flying High, Falling Hard soon. My pre-readers as well as some people in the comments say that my writing has improved, I'd like to hope so, but I am skeptical.
It was really great to have my first fic, and especially the first time I wrote romance in my life, go so well. I'm still keen to go back and edit earlier chapter, and plan to do so once I have more time. I feel that my earlier chapters are lacking compared to how well I write now, and that 'lacking' may cause some people to turn away from the story (going off the assumption that most people read chapter 1 first).
As my fic will be going into a new phase somewhat soon I'm kind of worried I may be making it overstay it's welcome. I'm hoping I'm able to make the various arcs interesting and flow smoothly from one another.
I have to give a large amount of credit to the stories Romance Reports and Study Buddies, although for two very different reasons. Romance reports I felt was a bit raunchy and 'un-ponylike', but it was an extremely compelling read none the less. Meanwhile Study Buddies was a great read, and I'm still reading it, but I feel like Twilight and Fluttershy's relationship had an unrealistic and spontaneous beginning. Reading Romance Reports made me notice how a flow of changing between 'drama' and 'fluff' was amazing, and a constant amount of one or the other was kind of dull and generic.
I'll admit, you're a damn good writer.
But, some of the plot points need to be ironed out. Especially in FHFH.
