Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

Stepping Down from Fanfic Writing; Focusing on Life, Career, Game Dev

This blog post might not come as any surprise given the last new chapter of anything I posted was a year ago. I meandered away from the site for some time, unsure if I would feel like coming back. I'm making this blog post because I'm pretty sure now at this point I won't want to write ponyfic any time soon. I really regret leaving A Darkened Land unfinished, since I did truly enjoy writing quite

    An Update

After being silent so long I guess I should start by saying this isn't a gloom and doom type blogpost, heh.

Unpopular Opinion #6: Learning Theory Can Kill You

Okay, maybe "kill you" is a bit overdramatic, but "clickbait" is sort of a theme of these blog posts' titles anyway so yeah.

I recently came back from Bronycan where I spoke on 3 separate hour-long writing panels. I got some pretty good words of encouragement from people saying they learned something, and actually in talking that much about writing I felt I learned something too.

My Slow Writing and Life Update

I'm 4th year University student studying Computer Science. I'm into writing, art, programming, and game development. I tend to plan far in advance for the future, and previously I've mentioned A Darkened Land will likely be my last novel length fic.

    Bronycan Details

Hey there! So I'm all set for Bronycan and they've got the schedule up on their website.

In a surprise turn of events, the coordinator approved of all of our panels! That means I'll be sitting in as a panelist on 3 of the 4 writing panels our little group is organizing. Here's the times/topics for all four:

Bronycan Details · 12:56pm Aug 7th, 2016

Hey there! So I'm all set for Bronycan and they've got the schedule up on their website.

In a surprise turn of events, the coordinator approved of all of our panels! That means I'll be sitting in as a panelist on 3 of the 4 writing panels our little group is organizing. Here's the times/topics for all four:

Friday:
- 8:30 PM, "Advanced Writing"
Saturday:
- 10:00 AM, "Writing Comedy: How to Make Your Horses Hilarious"
Sunday:
- 10:00 AM, "Using What You Know: Crossing Disciplines in Writing" (I'm not part of this one.)
- 2:15 PM, "From Short Stories to Epics: Fitting Your Fic to the Idea"

I'll probably try live streaming a practice panel before the con starts. If so, I'll try to make a blog post at least 24 hours beforehand so that any of you who want to tune in are able to. If you're a writer and you can only attend one, I strongly recommend "Advanced Writing", where we'll be focusing on things which took us years to learn and understand, and it's the panel where we'll sharing some of our personal beliefs and experiences when it comes to writing.

But attend all of them, of course! (If you can, I mean :fluttershyouch:)

I also recommend dropping by artist TJ Pones' Tableside Chat. I've hung out with the dude a bunch since even before he started Horsewife and he's just all around a wicked funny guy to be around.

Unfortunately, I talked to GaryOak yesterday, and it looks like the Advanced Writing panel may end up switched with Comedy, because my boss won't give me two hours off to get there. Otherwise, either A) I'll have to hustle it and will probably be late; or B) it will only be the two of you on that panel.

So, uh, be prepared to fill half the panel runtime yourself, should it come to that. :ajsleepy:
