So... much... writing... · 8:10am Mar 7th, 2014
Hello, friends of the written word! I decided to make a quick blog post about Letters to Ponyville, just cause I wanna and you can't stop me.
So around Spike's second letter, I thought it would be a good idea to make a report. That way, everyone can understand the story without going all flip-floppity with the letter order. Well, who would have thought just how much information there would be that I'd need to sum up between those letters?
I'm still in the process of writing it, and I've been working on it since Monday. I'm 5000 words in and still not past Spike's stay at boot camp. I'm hoping to be done with that part at around 6500 words, because seriously, that's a lot of freaking words. I've been skipping parts of the camp, mostly for this reason, but also because there's not much story-wise to say. Once that's done, I still have the travel to camp, the camp attack, the move to the Crystal Empire, the stay there, then the new orders.
Considering how much I love brevity in writing, and definitely show it in my own, I'm thinking 500 per move, 3-4k for the camp, 3-4k for the Empire stay, and a final 1k for the new orders. Of course, we all know how plans work out, so this will be fun.
In short, whenever I get this thing done, be ready for--at least--a 12,000 word chapter. That's the largest chapter I've ever written, and nearly the largest document I ever wrote (one of my stories, I decided to write the whole thing before posting, which came to about 17k, then broke it apart into chapters.).
So if anyone has letters they want to write, I'll be extra happy for them, because this thing will take some time. I don't want to leave people hanging for too long, after all.
Now, about the chapter itself and what it means. This will be Spike's report, so it will essentially "cut off" the previous section of the story. Once I post it, letters about boot camp that are written to be at the same time as Spike can't work well. I can move them to where they need to be, but I don't know how well that will work for the readers. Also, when the report is finished, I can't allow any "I met with Spike" moments for those past letters and will need to edit them out. I'm sorry, but in order to keep it canonical, I'm writing those letters into the report and can't add them later once it's posted.
In short, what it means to you is simple: Continue to write whatever letter you like, but be wary of changes I might need to make. If you have a letter about seeing Spike you want to write, do so now so I can add in the meeting with the new chapter.
What, you thought I'd just let you guys post letters without including them in the actual narrative? Come on, I'm not that kinda guy! Your letters serve as a continuing drive for me to write, and an inspiration! Of course I'd make a mention of them!
Well, I now bid you adieu. Until next time!
