First story to reach a hundred up-votes! Jay! · 5:21pm Mar 5th, 2014

As of writing this, Horse Feathers is sitting at 101 up-votes!

Just to satisfy my curiosity I divided the number of up-votes on all my fics by their number of down-votes. In the order I started writing them:

One Pony's Curse, Is Another Man's Blessing: 3,4 votes per down-votes.
Sufficiently Advanced: 10,7 votes per down-votes.
A Rare Source of Irritation: 11,3
Horse Feathers: 5,3 votes per down-votes.

Considering that OPCIAMB is my first fic proper ever and a 5S/4 fic at that I'd say that is a rather decent figure, but you can tell SA was the fic I had an editor almost from the start on.

Wonder how the figure for HF would have been if I'd done that for it as well? But as I've said earlier it was started as a spur of the moment story, and perhaps it's pride talking but I'd like to think at least a few of those down-votes are the result of the backlash against HAV stories considering the feedback I've been getting so far on it.

I am a bit puzzled about ARSI's figure, thought. Part of it is no doubt that's it is a rather odd duck in a tiny genera... but it is also my only story that is in third person. Can't help but wonder if that is part of it. It hasn't happened often, but I've heard a few grumbles about first-person and I can't help but wonder since that is my preferred writing style.

Either way, it interested me enough to write out this wall of text.

TL: DR version.

Jay!

Congratulations:pinkiehappy::derpytongue2::moustache:

Don't worry. Looks like you are just a niche author.
Your writing is too confusing and smart for connoisseurs of red and black alicorns, but too esoteric and rough for high-brow crowd. For example, you still don't fixed seven improper uses of then in the second chapter of Rare Source. Every orthodox grammar nazi closed tab after second improper use. :derpytongue2:
Probably you never will be a popular author. Deal with it. I'll fain take you anytime than 99.9% of shit featured on the main page.

I swear it just slipped my mind! Thank you so much for reminding me! Fixed.

But regarding the other bits? Although I'd love to get onto ED or something, I'm honestly rather pleasantly surprised with the amount of people I've reached so far and the reactions I've gotten.

I said it in a earlier blog but it bears repeating; not bad for about half a year. Here's hoping to many more!

That's the spirit!
You already have very important thing, that many lack. Not only you have imagination and talent, you have quite discernible style. So relax and don't all these faves and likes/dislikes dissuade you. Just strive for improvement of things that you already have. Of course, it's not reason to don fedora, shout from rooftops and name yourself "The Great and Modern Writer". :raritywink:
As recently mentioned German philosopher with five sequential consonants in the name said, poets write with their blood. Don't compare your vital fluid to silly green and red numbers.
Sorry to wax lyrical all over you, but I seen too much good authors that reflected too much and lost their impetus.
Thus forward march! :yay:
Sorry again for sappiness.
And of course, congratulations! :moustache:
