And that decision is to finally and officially cancel Pillow Talk.
I know that readers hate it when fics are left hanging, but the truth of the matter is that this fic really doesn't have a chance of being revived anymore for several reasons.
It was originally conceived of as a (rather rushed) one-shot, and really should have stayed as such. As a naive beginner at the horse word game, I was greedy for views and subsequently decided to continue the story rather than come up with something different. I sprinkled it with sequel hooks for stories that will never be written now. I included memes without much rhyme or reason and even when I first published it a year and a half ago, the storyline was pretty cliched.
Even worse, the story was begun during the break between seasons 2 and 3. A season and a half of new canon has gone by, leaving this story increasingly in the dust. And to drive the final nail in the coffin, I've misplaced the notes I had on how the story was supposed to end.
So, in the interest of moving forward and clearing my mind of lingering doubts, I am officially cancelling this poor old story and putting it out to pasture. Cliches aside, there are some small elements of this story that I do still like and I may fold those into a future AppleDash/LyraBon idea which has been stuffed in my idea pile for ages now. If that ever comes to fruition, I'll let you know.
In the meantime, so that you're not left completely in the cold, I do have two things for you:
Firstly, the bare beginnings of chapter five (only 500 words): In which RD's cloud home is moved groundside.
Secondly, the aborted rewrite of the opening chapter/original one-shot, planned as three chapters totalling 9-10K with better pacing and description (about half finished at 5K): In which the story starts on a better footing.
This post is moderately depressing. I need to go eat some chocolate now to make me feel better.
I blame you for ruining my diet.
