STOP. FULL SPOILERS FOR Octavia's Reprise - Chapter Eight BELOW!
Long one this week! As I said last time, I was thinking about combining two shorter chapters, and this is a product of that. Originally this chapter was going to end with the pair of them sleeping in Octavia’s old room, but it just doesn’t seem right ending a chapter with everything hunky-dory, does it? Hope you guys don’t mind the extra length!
Octavia’s still swinging into full-on freak-out mode every so often; it’s not too grating, is it?
Minor is loosely based off my own mother. Take that as you will. Thankfully I don’t have a strained relationship with her, or any moments in which I wasn’t speaking with her.
Let it be noted that this writer does NOT ship fillies. The idea of them sharing a bed is supposed to be cute and show how close they are as friends; not suggest something far less innocent.
The scene at breakfast with the eggs once again goes back to my own cooking; once I made scrambled eggs for a friend, and he was flabbergasted at how good they were. When he asked me about my process, he discovered that I add milk, while he never did. So there you go.
More Fiddlesticks references! Yay!
I went a little nuts with references to the show on this one. Kind of hard not to, really; just a lot of things for me to play with and make the characters really feel like they’re a part of this world. Plus, I get to make a few jokes fans may appreciate.
‘Lemon surprise’ is a quiet reference to “Epic Derp Time” by Alligator Tub Productions, one of my favorite fan animations. It’s just all sorts of brilliant.
I was a little worried about spending too much of this chapter with the girls just meandering around town not really moving the plot at all, but I feel each encounter adds something to Octavia’s mind for her to reflect on, and I hope that comes across well.
I’ve got big plans for the next chapter. I hope you guys like where I take that cliffhanger.
