True Bronies - Flog Post #12 · 9:56pm Feb 7th, 2014
So I was asked how the small group of MLP:FiM fans that consider themselves to be true bronies, are a dying breed:
The dying breed are the bronies who can really show they love MLP by the actions they make in real life, conveying the morals and emotions shown in Friendship is Magic. But instead we have a surge of sex-driven kids and retarded adults who want to be called diferent because they watch a show on The Hub. Whatever happened to quoting Twilight Sparkle's letters to Celestia? Why do I need to see dozens of disgusting clop pictures every time I open Derpiboo.ru?
So many people are blind to what this little show can truly represent: Love for one another, clear and respectful communication, trust and tolerance. Not a lot of "bronies" can even give a definition to half of the things I just listed, and it really makes me sad.
I mean, it is nice when I can goto the store and pick up a pair of Pinkie Pie socks or a Derpy backpack, but what does that mean to me compared to another guy who will walk in and buy the same things just to look "hip" to his little circle of so called friends. I can feel connected to this show through my collection of merch, but it also signs me up to take the responsibility of calling myself a brony and the list of morals and guidelines I must follow in order to be proud of the name I gave myself.
Because to be honest, every brony is a self-given name that attempts to differentiate from the norm and other fandoms. It means I gave an undying devotion to a flash-animation-turned-cartoon that I truly believe in. Like Brogres or Whovians, it is a name that represents that you follow this fandom almost to the point of fantasizing about it everyday. Using the names freely just to look better than the next person is just wrong, and it really messes up how fandoms are seen and critically perceived.
This topic is just so long and it goes deep, but you get the idea. I call myself a true brony, and I intend to live up to the expectations that I make for myself by following this fandom.
