So this morning's idea that's going into my current work ideas is none other than the 'trophy wife' of Fancy Pants herself.
Just who is she really? We explore her in fics before, but I think that being around Fancy Pants, and being his wife should speak volumes about her.
Here's a line concept for the first time she gets alone with Chrysalis to work on the queen's image. And almost immediately rejects what Chrissy wants.
"If I just give you what you want, what good am I at my job? You can find a thousand ponies in Canterlot willing to be your little 'Yes-mare'. But what good does a 'yes-mare' do you if they don't have the fortitude to call you out on your mistakes? And don't tell me you don't make mistakes. I've worked with enough Little Miss Princesses who think they know everything to catch the signs of egotism. No, even you make mistakes. You've done it once, and all of Canterlot knows it. So don't even entertain the thought of trying to convince me otherwise. Now, turn to your side and strike a pose. I think I can fix this hair of yours, and I'm sure we'll have you looking stunning with a little polish to your shell. ... And a mild workout routine. You have very shapely legs, but your flank could use some toning."
Behold, the very competent, potentially scary 'Flower of Lily'. Fleur De Lis (Or Fleur Dis Lee, or Fleur LeBlanc. Seems the fandom can't choose a name), supermodel, and supermodel trainer. She can teach just about any mare she gets her hooves on how to look their best, act their best, and how to make them image absolutely stunning. And she's not afraid to tell you when you're screwing it up. Chrysalis' first pony friend (or rather, first real friend) and one of the few she gains respect for early on. Don't mess with Fleur.
She's scary when provoked.

I like the idea I read a while back that she is actually Fancy's bodyguard.

Yeah, I always thought there was more to her than just "trophy wife." Aside from what it says that Fancypants apparently seeks her presence, just look at her behavior when she first appears. Look at her smile. That's the smile of a mare who's self aware. Someone who knows how over-the-top and ridiculous she's acting, loves every minute of it, and doesn't particularly mind if the smaller minded take her parody at face value. And it's the smile of a mare who knows things.
I love the idea you've put up here. Fleur De Lis needs her respect.
