Arrow 18 dramatic reading for Flight Recorder log now up.

It's been a long time coming, but I'm happy to announce that 'A.F.R.T. 11252257:054557' has gone up at Nimbus Productions.

Teaser/Preview: MLBB II: 'Race The Sunset'

Spitfire blinked in relative silence, not sure exactly what to say before the smallest of the three Stalliongrad pegasi jerked his head up, squinting at the approaching dusk.

    She's coming back...

I haven't worked on this story in... Six years?
So I figure... "I really, REALLY need to finish this last chapter. I mean, it's the LAST chapter and it's been sitting for YEARS!"

So I've had the document open, for two weeks now, trying to recapture my 'voice' from six years back.

    Just a random story prompt...

If anyone's interested in writing a 3 to 5 thousand word short, be my guest. But I wanted to write out the prompt of sorts that popped into my head today.

Instant full body flush, just add vitamins...

    Tagging FtFoNR because medical shenanigans...

So, interesting experience today. I'd like to think I know how to handle dealing with vitamins and supplements. I do my research, I check safe doses, antagonists, read warnings.

But sometimes, something just slips through in a moment of complacency.

Teaser/Preview: MLBB II: 'Race The Sunset' · 3:53pm Apr 2nd, 2018

Spitfire blinked in relative silence, not sure exactly what to say before the smallest of the three Stalliongrad pegasi jerked his head up, squinting at the approaching dusk.

“Contact sighted,” he announced in a voice surprisingly full of authority. Everypony present gave him full attention in an instant. “Vector zero eight six. Altitude, at least eighty thousand, maybe eighty-five? Speed.... Whoa.”

“Whoa?” Spitfire arched an eyebrow.

“I have... Never seen ANYTHING go that fast...”

“Manestay?” Mikoyan asked.

“Mach...” Manestay blinked. “Three... Point five.”

Two-hundred and eighty miles east of the intercept group's position, a sonic boom rocked all of equestria below as a single pegasus skirted the line between raw speed, and pure insanity. Twin trails of vapor condensed behind her as she passed, leaving a long strand of cloud in her wake. Eyes on a snowcapped tip of mountain on the horizon, she pushed herself like never before, trying to keep the sun in place. The roar in her ears muted, the sandblasting heat against her muzzle slightly less comfortable than normal, Dainty Dish counted to herself as she paced her wing beats to the second.

“One... Two... Three...”

'CRACK!'

“One... Two... Three...”

'CRACK!'

“One.. Two... Three-”

“HOW FAST?!” Rainbow Dash gaped as she flipped onto her back to fly in reverse.

“There is no mistaking!” Manestay almost choked. “That pony is traveling even faster than ever.”

“Tis because she's late,” Luna interjected. “She must be trying to beat her appointed time.”

Huehuehuehue...

The official speed on the blackbird is Mach 3.33. But the real limiter is 1: Physics, and 2: The first stage compressor fan in the turbojet core. Because of the ramjet functions of the J58 engine, the SR-71 can keep accelerating until drag from slowing air down for the engine matches thrust, or the first stage compressor fan explodes from overheating and softening.

So if you redline the engine, you can keep pushing her higher and faster...

Anyway, I'm a bit stuck on the scene. I know what I want all the way to the end. I just need to get it down, then clean up the resulting mess.

If Dainty Dish had an in flight water feed, she could use the japanese reentry heat shield trick, of the water, steam being the limiting temperature at nose point.

The other thing to watch out for, is that if you have enough shere brute force power, is that a blunt front causes a very deep hyperbolic compression cushion as the compression causes increase in temperature which causes increase in local speed of sound.

The other trick at first sight is only available to thestrals, sarosians, batponies. Ultrasonic Airspike, where the acoustic compression causes the shockwave to form ahead of the structure. Tested in the lab using microwave and laser emitters.

Did they ever do a test run or do they have water cooling injection on the first stage compressor, and at what Mach does the Afterburner only generate all the thrust, letting the turbine be closed down?

Do you even READ my Christmas list??

With the SR-71, they didn't do water cooling. That's just more weight it doesn't need. And the Turbine never closes down. The turbomachine spools back to idle above mach 3 somewhere and continues to operate to provide electrical power and hydraulic pressure.

With some of the tech we have even now, I could definitely see some speed improvements on a design like the Bird. Better flow through for the ramjets for one, maybe a bypass power turbine for electrical power at high speed that opens when above a certain mach number. Then you CAN close down the compressor stages on the main turbine.

Computer control...

Oh, the new thing would be even faster. Before you consider adding in scramjets.

Rolls Royce have a design they found by accident off the Pegasus engine in the Harrier.

Theoretically it allows 3000 seconds turbojet operation using hydrogen fuel at Mach 10 and higher.

Not quite all the jets.

Trouble is, just how would Pegasi etc in flight, implement the equivalent of the Hubless Turbine, where the Cone and Plug Scram model would may be more appropiate?

Oh dear, I got lost in Wiki again. :twilightoops:
