Start of something new - weekly random blog- part one - How I became a brony. · 1:58am Jan 11th, 2014
So yeah. As the title of this blog suggests, I am going to be doing a random blog post that is related to absolutely nothing at all to do with story updates. By my watch, and probably anyone else in the UK's watch, it is nearly a quarter past one in our great country, on Saturday morning, meaning I will do a random blog post every Saturday. May not always be this early in the morning though. So now you have two things to look forward to in two consecutive week days (well, one can only hope) also, any issue that I discuss is open for debate/input/sharing your story related to the post.
As this is the first one I'm doing, I think it is only right I tell yet olde tale on my conversion to the mighty fandom. Ok, I will admit it, at first I thought the whole concept of grown men/women watching a cartoon that is below their age range was a bit weird, and I immediately thought this every time I saw a brony on the Internet:
*dramatic reenactment of my thoughts* there is no way in he'll these people actually watch my little pony, they are definitely just trolling. I was, however, never the proper hating type. I was closed minded, but not to the point that I was a hater.
I know, many of you probably want me stoned to death now, but this is genuinely what happened. Anyway, shortly after hearing of the craze, and thinking it was some new breed of Internet trolling, I found my brother watching it. Of course, I initially thought he was trolling as well. I just couldn't bring myself to give it a shot.
Now, my brother knows that, when I watch a TV show, I find scenes where the characters or presenters start bickering with each other hilarious. He used this as fuel to get me to give the show a chance. He told me to watch 'fall weather friends', an episode full of bickering between Rainbow Dash and Applejack. Did this convince me to become a brony? Well...no. It opened my mind a bit, and i enjoyed the episode, but I needed to see more first. So the second one he told me to watch was 'look before you sleep'. So I watched that one too. Now, that episode to the day is still one of my favorites. After seeing this episode, my brother's work was done. I started watching all the episodes in order, starting from the season one premiere and ending at the season 3 finale. It was a good half way through season one I thought
*second dramatic reenactment of my thoughts* by Celestia almighty, this show is the best thing ever.
And it was then, and ever since I am part of the bestest fandom ever. Sure, their are some episodes that I think are terrible, and obviously ones I think are great. I even enjoyed Equestria Girls. But all in all, the depth of the show, the characterization of all the characters in the show, the - let's be honest - wit in some parts, the animation, all combine make the show a winner in my eyes. It was afterwards I discovered the fan fiction, associated music, fan art etc.
So, if you care to share your story on becoming a brony or pegasister, feel free to leave it in the comment section.
Anyway, that about wraps up my first random blog post. Of course, another devoid update can be expected Friday, as well as another random blog a week today, but perhaps a bit later in the day. Enjoy Pinkie Apple Pie tomorrow. Goodbye for now
