On the Canon names for Fanon ponies (MLP:CCG) · 12:10am Jan 11th, 2014
So yeah, the MLP:CCG has a lot of names for the background ponies that haven't been named in the show itself. That's nothing new as such, but the fact that a lot (but not all) of them have the TM (trademark) tag after their name means that they've registered a lot of those names. You can go check the cards at Ponyhead. Can these now be considered official that Hasbro owns their names? I dunno. Here's a list anyways.

Surprisingly, several of the other background ponies have gotten names, but they aren't trademarked, like
Screwy (the insane dogpony)
Bulk Biceps (I'll always call him Snowflake)
Dance Fever (the Hugh Heffner -pony from Hearts and Hooves)
Pinprick (The unicorn formerly known as Pokey Pierce)
Even MORE surprisingly, Wild Fire (Sabrina "Sibsy" Alberghetti's OC) and Surprise (From G1, now a member of the Wonderbolts) are _not_ trademarked. Surprise was the pony who became Pinkie because they didn't have the rights to her name anymore. Oh, and she belongs to Pink or 'Laughter' suite. Funny that.
On a completely separate note, my new favourite background pony / card is 
I think that flavour text is the cutest and most awesome thing ever. And that pun with her nickname! It hurts so good!
In other news, I'm hitting my head on a writer's block with Cadence In A Minor and working on other stories while I let it simmer. I've written 8,5k of a new FOALCON BDSM CLOP STORY because hey, I'm a sick bastard. 
It's not even close to finished. Self-indulgent clop is fun. Can't be serious all the time, right?
What I really have to admit is that ever since I heard that season 5 had been confirmed, I haven't been able to stop smiling. I also went and watched the ComicCon teaser of tomorrow's episode. That song is so darn catchy. I'm willing to say it'll play in my head at least as long as Winter Wrap-Up! So much better than the other songs this season combined. Just for that, I'm already liking tomorrow's / today's episode (whatever your timezone might be). It's also got Applebloomlicious made canon, so YAY FOR FAN-PANDERING! (This I like)
It wouldn't surprise me if some (but not all) of the names were created by the people behind the show. They often give names to ponies that you see in the show but you don't hear their names mentioned because there is usually no reason to say it in an episode. Queen Chrysalis is an excellent example of this. While not a background pony you don't hear her name in the show. But Chrysalis was announced has the official name and it was even used in the comics.

. . . Huh. Dr. Hooves, and Octavia have been released as Funko figures, so I guess those were already trademarked a while ago. (Lyra Heartstrings has been official since early 2012, she got her own normal toy.)
